little girls t-shirt dresses

I am trying to kit my LO out for nursery in some cheap dresses. I want a little dress with a round neck (maybe buttons), short sleeves (t-shirt length) and not too short. Can have a flounced skirt but not fussed about that really. The just need to be washable, sturdy, cool but covering and not need ironing oh and cheap!
Any ideas?

I'd get her some checked school summer dresses tbh - they come in ages 3 and upwards, they're often really cheap if you buy two-packs and they wash and dry instantly. If you get some lemon yellow, purple or pink ones then they won't be as obviously 'schooly' as the blue/green/red ones.

Or H&M have got some ridiculously cheap butterfly/African print frocks for 2.99 at the moment.

bran · 24/05/2010 18:08

Gap are usually good for that kind of thing, DD has a couple from there one of which she wore last summer too and it still looks good, although not necessarily cheap. How about these from M&Co which are 2 for £12? Rainbow Babies have these, but not particularly cheap.

Any reason why you wouldn't send her in soft/cycling shorts and t-shirts? There are loads of lovely shorts in places like Asda which would be just as cool and a bit more practical. (I have issues about having to wear dresses/skirts throughout school.)

SarfEasticated · 24/05/2010 18:13

No reason for not going down the shorts route, just thought a dress would be cooler. She is also potty training so less to pull down!
I looked in Gap today. nothing, just spaghetti strapped tops and denim shorts

Do you think it's easier to potty train in a dress? I'm starting to train DD in ernest as soon as DS goes back after half term and I've bought loads of elasticated shorts thinking that they would be easier. She seems reasonably competent at taking off trousers and shorts but I'm not sure she's got the hang of pulling a dress up to her tummy and holding on to it.

Bobbalina · 24/05/2010 18:19

H&M is often ideal for this kind of thing and usually very cheap

SarfEasticated · 24/05/2010 18:20

I don't suppost they're's much to it really, I just assume it would be. Just think one day soon, we will never have to buy nappies again! I can't wait!

I like a positive outlook. Is this your first time potty training? [innocent emoticon] I'm hoping that DD will be easier than DS was because I would rather keep changing nappies until she's off to uni than go through that again.

fruitymum · 24/05/2010 18:48

I got a nice pink and white stripy on in John Lewis for DD

gherkinwithapurplemerkin · 24/05/2010 18:52

Sainsbos have packs of 2 jersey dresses in stripes/spots for £7. They are vest-sstyle sleeves though.

bran · 24/05/2010 18:54

Oh, yes fruitymum. I was in our Waitrose today and they had loads of sensible t-shirt dresses. I'd forgotten about it because their colours are all wrong for DD this summer so I didn't really take in the styles. Again, not exactly cheap, but good quality. They have quite a few online if you don't have a John Lewis near you.

EvilTwins · 24/05/2010 18:54

I kitted mine out in Sainsbury's for our holiday. Try there - lots of t-shirt style and also nice little cotton dresses that are dirt cheap so you won't care if she gets paint all over them.

Rockbird · 24/05/2010 18:55

Sainsbos and Asda. I kit dd out every year in them, they're so easy.

mrspink27 · 24/05/2010 18:56

Sainsburys, Asda and Tesco have these usually v cheaply. Classy shopper me!

Celery · 24/05/2010 18:57

Matalan have some nice ones. About £7.00 for two.

Moneyspider · 24/05/2010 19:03

possibly? Never had any girls' stuff from here, but quality is fab

john lewis that fruity mentioned

cheap as

likewise

supermarket chic

and in pink

Moneyspider · 24/05/2010 19:09

Might also be worth getting this

MrsDinky · 24/05/2010 19:10

Those H&M ones are gorgeous but they don't cover shoulders. I have seen so many girls wearing them in the last week. We have most of the colours, wearing them with a white tee shirt under.

bettaday · 24/05/2010 19:17

Have a very cute one from H&M for my DD. It's purple and has little sleeves

dairymoo · 24/05/2010 20:52

I've just bought my DTs little t-shirt dresses in Sainsbo's today. They are exactly as you describe, although to get them long enough (for my liking!) I bought a size up.

Colour choices are pink, orange, purple and brown and cost £5 each.

SarfEasticated · 24/05/2010 20:56

Our sainso's doesn't have clothes, but I should be able to get to an H&M. I do like the JL ones but I need cheaper than that.
Thanks everyone - much appreciated.

Ive bought these for my DD before. They do them every year. If you buy 2 you get £5 off, they are also on the discount page on here, I think its 10% off.

THey will last more than one summer too, mine have,so this year, i'm up for a new set! Very comfy, very easy to wear, wash well, and DD had no probs with the potty training in them. SHe is well and truly trained now,and does have some problems with lifting up her dresses, but these are just the right length that its not an issue.

HAve a look on the other "dresses" pages too on the website as there are a couple other similar, also with the same £5 off offer.

SarfEasticated · 25/05/2010 20:53

I really like the jojo ones, but still a little too expensive for nursery even with both discounts. Will have to keep looking... maybe ebay?

I got some for my dds from Zara if you have one near you, thin cotton, round neck short sleeves. Sized up 2 sizes to get a decent length. Cost 4.95 Euros. HTH
