Suit needed for possible interview please

Have a possible interview in a few weeks (trying not to count chickens.) It's public sector and a fairly high-powered admin job.

I'm looking for a suit, please. Budget about £300 absolute max. I am 5' 8", size 8-10 but very pear-shaped. I like trouser suits but would consider skirt suit if not too short (41.)

Would lke to avoid black if possible- a bit draining on me. Unless you think black is essential? Haven't had an interview for years...

Uusally shop in Boden, Next, White Stuff etc. so wouldn't mind something different.

Thanks.

you will find a lovely suit in Hobbs, they fit perfectly and look great. Best of luck with your interview and let me know how you get on with Hobbs

Thanks, shuz. Gah, I do want a Hobbs suit but not sure I can get the whole things for £300...
What do you think of this?

I recently got this jacket and this skirt for an interview, and I can't recommend it highly enough- it is lined linen so nice and light, but structured and holds its shape and is oh so flattering, whilst being a bit different from all the boring suits out there. I absolutely love it.

And I got the job

tethersend · 23/05/2010 12:50

Oh, and I'm a teacher so public sector too.

Let's hope there are actually any public sector jobs left after tomorrow

JoJoBooBoo · 23/05/2010 12:54

Congrats on the job, tethersend!

What like about that is that is looks light- if I get an interview, it will be in July and don't want to arrive looking like a sweaty mess.

Equally I don't want to look like RoboCandidate so your suit is a nice change.

What top did you wear?

Thanks!

It really is nice and light, but doesn't crease like unlined linen can. I just wore a scoop necked black top- anything busier would break up the line of the jacket... even the matching dress looked too busy around the neck. Having said that, I think another coloured top as long as it was plain would work as well.

I pinned a vintage brooch to it too. It struck the right balance between formal and slightly different I think... at 'robocandidate'.

Good luck!

Thanks, tethersend. I've bookedmarked it (and the Hobbs one) for future reference. I think I might wear a plain red top with it.

Now, just need to get the interview.
