what is a maxi dress?

I asked on a different thread but noone answered

I'm guessing its because I'm completely obviously out of my depth in style and beauty

Coderooo · 22/05/2010 21:23

lol

moondog · 22/05/2010 21:25

I've gone right off them since someone posted that link to all those women at Aintree wearing them accessorised with jet black hair, gladiator sandals, a pint in a plastic cup and a Silk Cut.

Is a long skirt a la maxi dress as bad? was thinking of getting one to wear with sleeveless shirt and wide belt.
Maxi dress is basically big tent

funnysinthegarden · 22/05/2010 21:26

love the idea of a maxi dress, but unless you're 12 foot and like a beanpole then non. Even then you'd prob look like a teepee

Coderooo · 22/05/2010 21:26

i dont like em
largely cos they wouldnt suit me

I saw two women looking gorgeous in them today. They were both at least 5'8", slender and under the age of 22.

They look shite on everyone else

cyb · 22/05/2010 21:29

I think they woudl only work really on a beach as a cover up

vintage · 23/05/2010 20:17

they are in all the shops around here but ive yet to see anyone actually wearing one

cornsilkcottagecheese · 23/05/2010 20:19

I saw a young thing wearing one who looked very glam. They remind me of Margo from the Good Life so I'm sttaying clear.

vintage · 23/05/2010 20:21

i used to wear them to our school Christmas parties in the 70s they were called either hostess gowns or country style dress

notyummy · 23/05/2010 20:23

I feel Must leap to the defence of the maxi. They probably don't suit everyone, however neither do skinny jeans but everyone seems to be wearing them still. If you are short and apple shaped then they probably aren't the best choice, however I have quite few of them and have had a fair few compliments when wearing them.

blinks · 23/05/2010 21:02

i loved margo in the good life. she knew how to rock a kaftan.

helyg · 24/05/2010 09:22

I love my maxi dress. I wore it all weekend and stayed lovely and cool. I'm not 5"10, a size 8 or under 22 though so I probably looked hideous...

GypsyMoth · 24/05/2010 09:45

i'm off to tk max in a bit to buy a nice one i saw yesterday!!

camel toe?? i think you see more of that with the hoardes of badly fitting shorts i've seen women in lately!!

brimfull · 24/05/2010 09:48

i like them
saw loads of people looking good in them yesterday
although one was see through on large arse which was not so good
