If you could go back in time, which hair-removal method would you choose?

DD (early teens) is angling to remove her leg hair. Doesn't have a preference for method - so if you were starting all over again would you do what you did first time around or something different?

I would probably still shave as it is the easiest way for me. I also sometimes use veet but it does make my legs a bit itchy.

dexter73 · 20/05/2010 19:23

My dd uses veet and she is 13.

DecorHate · 20/05/2010 19:25

Does veet actually work though? I seem to recall having to redo or shave bits where the hair was stubbornly clinging on...

Waxing. The hair will grow back finer and some will eventually never grow back over time.

JaxTellersOldLady · 20/05/2010 19:30

hmm waxing i think. I do love how smooth my legs feel after they have been waxed.

It doesnt last long though, the hair grows back after a week or so and then i shave them and the cycle continues.

Havent tried any Veet or similar since I was a teenager, it stank then and that put me off. Having asked some friends if it is any better or smells nicer the consensus is NO.

DecorHate · 20/05/2010 19:46

maybe I will treat her to waxing first and see how long it lasts - will not be forking out for it every month though!

waxing

i wish with all my heart i never shaved

jamaisjedors · 20/05/2010 19:54

wax a few times and then get her an epilator so she can do it herself.

If she does it about a week after being waxed then there won't be too many hairs and it won't be too sore.

If she leaves it longer ... [wince]!

ilovemydogandMrObama · 20/05/2010 19:57

Laser. I've added up all the money I've spent over the years on waxing, shaving, electrolysis, and would have been cheaper to have had laser.

Not sure though they would do it on a young teenager...

Pluto · 20/05/2010 20:00

Treat her to waxing. Gradually her hairs will really thin out and she won't need to get it done so often.

jamaisjedors · 20/05/2010 20:30

I'm not sure about the thinning out business.

I had mine waxed for ten years (not particularly thick hair) and I still felt I had too much grow-back after 2 weeks to wear a skirt.

Bonsoir · 20/05/2010 20:37

I have used an epilator ever since they were invented - I bought an Epilady c. 1986, and have had several subsequent epilators. I think for a teen that an epilator is great - cheap and effective.

[total hijack] bonsoir do you have any tips for Parisian hotels? - we are planning to celebrate our 10th anniversary in August with a couple of days in Paris.

I realise that you probably don't stay in hotels yourself as you already live in Paris so feel free to say "no idea", as I would have no idea really about hotels here.

Will start a thread in shorthaul (or living overseas?).

Sorry for hijack op.

Bonsoir · 20/05/2010 21:21

Hotel Récamier is fabulously well placed and the new sister hotel to the fabulous Hotel Verneuil, and Hotel Thérèse, both of which I have stayed in, though not terribly recently. Hotel Thérèse tends to be the best value of the three, due to its location - which personally I think is really great, but is probably in less demand that the others on the Left Bank.

Is that the sort of thing you are looking for?

DecorHate · 20/05/2010 22:32

Didn't think of epilators - might be worth trying. Off to google some now!

Thanks bonsoir that's brilliant. Will let you know where we go for.
