Toe post/flip flop type things - how do they not hurt?

Loads of shoes I like the look of this year have toe posts- every time I've tried this type, it's really rubbed and been sore. Have I got freaky feet (be nice, now), or is there a trick to breaking them in?

I think the skin toughens between my toes and they don't hurt after a while.

I used to have same problem which was a pain as were living in Bangkok at time and I really wanted flip flops. A friend said she got her feet used to toe postby wearing fabric ones first then suedy ones and after that she's was fine. I bought some cheap flip flips with fabric toe posts and have pretty much been fine since.

I wear flip flops alot, despite having very unattractive feet. The skin between my big toe and one next to it is quite hard now so they never rub.

Apparently they are not very supportive of your feet and cause bad posture if you have to grip your toes to keep 'em on.

They can cause cracked heels too.

I still wear them though. They are just easy. I wear them in the house alot- don't like being barefoot.

M&S do these stick on inserts that go round the toe post so it doesn't rub.

Personally I always rub my finger along the post to make sure that there are no seams.

My 4year old and 6year old wear flip flops at home and I usually get them from Tesco.

I prefer Fit Flops and they actually cure my lower backpain.

TheStraitsofWTF Yes please .

I have fallen in love with the Ugg suede wedge, but at £85, it's not to be methinks.

winstonstimpson · 19/05/2010 21:58

i have long toes and there is lots of space between them which I suppose may help? If you had little cramped up ones it might be more difficult at first.

then again, I could be talking shite

fitflops are really comfy, and they sort your posture out - never had to break them in or had blisters... i am pretty used to flip flops in general but have my share of pain with some pairs

agree re no seams around he toe post

the bed of the fiflops is soft yet somehow firm - almost spongy

AnyFucker · 19/05/2010 22:04

spongy = good

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 19/05/2010 22:10

Agree with the lubricating solution.

I live in flip flops in the summer, but they do rub for the first couple of days.

You need something with the texture of vaseline - lipsalve is good if you don't have anything else to hand. (Works best on non-porous toe posts obviously.) Rub around the toe-post area, and anywhere else that the straps rub.

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 19/05/2010 22:19

Oh and make really sure your feet fit easily under the straps, so the toe post sits properly in the bit where your toes join your feet.

If the straps are too tight the toe post will be too far forward and will rub more.

Hmm. Thanks all. Am dithering away from them all now - sounds like too much hard work, and am back thinking about Fly Yuna.
