I have a fitted dress which I was going to wear with a thick black belt for a wedding is this ok?.

Very classic. I wore a spotted dress to my cousin's wedding, with a white linen jacket (Next outlet shop). When I arrived at the wedding, my aunt was also in the same kind of combo, so that was all the reassurance I needed (she is a stickler)!
