Oil cleansing method gone wrong, HELP....

I started it about 3 weeks ago, before I started I had spots under the skin and blackheads.

The first few days my skin looked lovely and clean. Now the spots are there and lingering for ages. They are on my chin, nose and inbetween my eyebrows. I have more spots now then I did before.

Do you think it is time to give up? Or will it improve?

I have somewhere to go this sat night and I'm hoping to look better by then.

I would go and see a proper beautician asap!

Seriously, they can do a deeper clean/steaming/extraction etc and the sooner you go the sooner your skin will calm down.

I think you could be right... I need to do something...

What oils are you using?

What is your skin type?

Are the spots "productive" (ie have a head on them) or blind?

I'm not a beautician but I am an aromatherapist and know which oils to use for which skin type

I am out for most of the morning but will get back to you asap

OooohWhatIfItHurts · 18/05/2010 17:35

Ooh, Tulpe, what difference does it make if the spots are productive?

tulpe · 18/05/2010 17:45

well my thinking is that if the spots are productive, it may just be part of the "healing crisis" ie things get worse before they get better because you are deep cleansing. But you need to weigh that up against the discomfort of the spots.

ruddynorah · 18/05/2010 17:51

i'd keep at it. all the spots is all the crap coming out. shame you have someeher to go at the weekend though

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 18/05/2010 18:03

Are you using caster oil? I found that it didn't work at all well on me, once I just used 'normal' oil it was much better.

I also found that sunflower and rice bran oil worked better than olive oil.

My top tip is to use kitchen roll rather than muslins to wash the oil off and to dry your face, I could never seem to get the muslins properly clean even in the washing machine, they always smelled odd.

tulpe - sorry I have not ben online, I'm using 80%olive oil and 20% caster oil...

My skin is not oily or dry it is quite balanced.

most of them do not have heads on them, they cannot be popped.

ruddy - how long do you think it will take for the spots to go?

cider - yes I am using caster oil. Do you think I should cut the caster oil out? I am using a flannel at the moment.

Did you have spots with the oil under the skin as well?

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 19/05/2010 09:41

returningstress - yes I got spotty with the caster oil, might be worth dropping it as an experiment?

I also found that its weirdy consistency made it almost impossible to rinse out of cloths, making them difficult to clean, bleurgh!

returningstress · 19/05/2010 11:37

Ok thanks for the tip, I have tried with just olive oil today, I hope it improves as my skin looks terrible...

reduce it to 90/10.

I have heard geranium oil is great, but have not actually tried it.
