Please can you help?

I have very oily and acidic skin. Never have, and really can't wear moisturiser.

I have pretty bad acne that spreads down my neck and chest, but no scars thankfully, and.....I'm broke.

Can you help me to look naturally feminine and pretty, occassionaly dramatic?

The good news is that due to my skin type, I am a late wrinkler see to have good tone (apart from the spots).

I have spent my life concentrating soley on covering my spots with up to 7 layers of foundation, but I want to learn how to do other things.

many tia.

have you seen Gp about spots? or tried a different way of cleansing?

FuckingNinkyNonk · 16/05/2010 19:19

Yes, there's no hope. Had them since I was 9 and have tried everything

BoysAreLikeDogs · 16/05/2010 19:24

there are antibiotics that one can take for acne
ask your GP

cyb · 16/05/2010 19:27

I cant beleive there is no hope for you...lots of poeple gert really sever acne greatly reduced by the use of anti bacs or skin treatments as BALD said

FuckingNinkyNonk · 16/05/2010 19:31

Thanks, but I PROMISE you I have been on everything. My immune system means that antibotics work in the short term but they I compensate. The pill(s) acts in the same way, but destroys my sex drive.

Roacutane works brilliantly, but again for limited time until my body re-sets and regulates itself (and in any case I'm breastfeeding). Tea-tree oil, neat, is my favourite treatment, but again, only if I haven't used it for ages (so I reserve it for that special ball, wedding etc)

have you tried the oil cleansing method?

wrt oily skin, prone to breakouts - I use mineral foundation (bare escentuals) and it's the dog's

cyb · 16/05/2010 19:47

yes I was going to say mineral foundation

you can layer that up without it looking heavy (altho I would err on the side of caution)

how are you with eye make up etc

FuckingNinkyNonk · 16/05/2010 19:48

Actually, BALD, no I haven't used that one. I could, but I've just not figured it out if I'm honest, and I would have to do it all over my chest and back too so not sure if it would be viable.

Perhaps you could explain more though. I could try it!?

threre are loads of threads on oil cleansing, this is one

FuckingNinkyNonk · 16/05/2010 19:55

Hiya. Well I have tried mineral (ELF) and it doesn't seem to last very long, nor get me the coverage I need.

My routine is:

Rimmel liquid all over
Maxfactor liquid all over
Rimmel concealer
Maxfactor stick
Maxfactor liquid all over
Rimmel concealer
Benefit Powder
Highligher as a last attempt on the spots and to touch up top of cheekbones.

(covers face, neck and chest depending on what I am wearing)

Eyes: Teeny amount of eyeliner across the top, and a teeny amount underneath and smudged. Then 2-3 applications of maxfactor mascara (and if time comb and redo, but rarely).

Can't figure out eye shadow. Always look wierd, but perhaps it is because I'm not used to it!?

I am wondering if all those liquid make ups are completely blocking your skin and having a counter-productive effect

ie you think that skin is bad so cover it up but in fact skin needs to be uncovered as it's overproducing sebum to compensate?

The bare escentuals mineral make up is pure, no additives, so is v v kind. I don't know owt about elf products.

bare escentuals is a bit £££, go to Debenhams and have a go with the testers in the range

FuckingNinkyNonk · 16/05/2010 20:39

I only do that routine if I am going out. Most of the time I remain bare, - oh I don't know. I went to the millenium dome and had my face photographed with a wierd machine and was told that wearing lots of make up actually holds in the moisture and keeps your skin looking young

Anyway, I'm not tooo bothered about my spots any more. Had them forever and know how to cover.. Trouble is, my whole make-up routine is based on covering them (and I'm a bloody expert, DH never knew I had any spots for 2 years, and didn't even know I wore make-up) and I never learned how to do good eye make up or anything else.

bare essentials has been mentioned before so I might give it a go. thanks.

Any advice, links to how to do good eyes though? I am blessed with long eye lashes, but bushy eyebrows (another acne problem, coz when I pluck I get zits where I plucked but have recently thought might prevent by applying something quick!?)

lauren luke on you tube gives brilliant tutorials

And have a go at having your eyebrows threaded at a brow bar

gomummygo · 16/05/2010 21:36

Another vote for bare essentials. I don't have acne but my mom does (yes, she always thought it would eventually go away, and it didn't.) I found it so nice on that I recommended it to her and she LOVES it, has literally changed her appearance too - doesn't even wear concealer daily anymore. Not cheap but not ridiculously priced, so worth a try.

FuckingNinkyNonk · 16/05/2010 21:45

Wow at those videos. Bit concerned that it took 15 mins for 2 eyes. I'm used to doing my make up on the go without a mirror . Perhaps it was just because she demonstrating.

I'll try and get hold of some bare essentials. DH owes me big time atm so we'll see. Can you order online?

I have got oily skin, and find that my make up tends to slide off my face, especially during hot weather.

Benefit do a product that you sponge onto your face before putting make up on, and it really help stop the oil - make up stays fixed all day. It's called Dr Feelgood, and it's a small pot of stuff with a firm, waxy consistency. When you spread it on you can barely feel it and you can't see it- it just feels silky on your skin. Then put on your foundation.

Have you tried using colour corrector to even out your complexion before foundation, rather than layering up? For white skin it's green coloured, and I think it's purple for darker skin.

I find that my skin is better when I wear make up...I think it protects from pollution and enforces a thorough cleaning regime!

For cleansing, I use a foam by Aveda, and it's brilliant! Can't remember what it's called, but it completely clears the grease and make up in one go, then rinse with water. It is v gentle and doen't strip your skin (which I think forces your skin to overproduce oil to replenish!). I don't use any other cleansers or moisturisers...just water, and start the day with a light water based moisturiser with SPF15.
