No GHDs. Lions mane hair, what to do?

My hair is a RIOT. It always has been.
No amount of blowdrying can tame it.
I use my GHDs daily for curls, waves or straight hair. They are almost 8 years old now and have been on the blink for ages, but gave in on Thursday, luckily i had finished and my hair lasted till yesterday. Now i'm stuck!
Think huge frizzy mess. Like a lions. That is my hair.
It's not curly or straight. Its shoulder length and choppy so i have some really short bits that won't fit in a bobble.

What can i do today?
Where can i get a pair of cheapo good straighteners? My dp says he will buy me GHDs for my birthday in JULY!

These are pretty good
My sister has them and I use them if I'm staying with my parents.
If you have mousse? If so, you could wet your hair and scrunch it curly.

can you wet your hair and curl individual bits round your fingers with product - when it dires it will at least be a bit corkscrewy - thats what I do...the realy short bits will still be a problem though - sorry...

Big velcro rollers. Quickly blow dry hair till almost dry, stick in three going backwards (iyswim) across the top and another three round the side (despite being velcro a hairgrip helps). Give quick blast of hairdryer and then leave for at least half an hr.

(When DP says you look like a martian you tell him all models use rollers. But please do not walk the streets in them a la Coleen Rooney)

Do a nice summery up-do. Like op said, mousse is good.
Don't blow dry, it makes frizz 100% worse, scrunch dry it with a towel (don't rub iyswim) and pin it up leaving nice little tendrels. Hair spray!

You have my deepest sympathy, i have horrific lions mane hair which absolutely nothing will cure except GHD's!!

Will your shorter bits go into a french plait? If so, dry hair with hair dryer 50% then put in mousse and do plait or try a few smaller plaits. Then leave to dry or dry with hair dryer until completely dry and leave to cool before taking out.

The other thing i do is put lashings of mousse on wet hair and then scrunch hair with a towel to get off excess water and then let dry naturally. Make sure you use enough mousse to coat hair to prevent frizzing.

Otherwise try getting a cheap pair from ebay.

Also, may be worth checking if plug fuse is tthe cause and can be replaced or check on iinternet if there is anyone who could try and mend them.

why are you blow drying it? is it actually curly hair that you've never learned to deal with? lot sof people are the same..curly hair, washed every day, rough dried with a towel, blow dried to within an inch of its life, brushed out to death then ironed out.

is that you OP?

PrammyMammy · 17/05/2010 22:29

:D No my hair isn't curly hair i haven't learned to deal with unfortunatly Norah. If i want curls i need to curl it. It is part wavy, extreamly thick, big, scarecrow hair. I was blow drying it because i have no ghds atm, and my layers stand up straight in the air unless i tease them down, and finger in the plug socket hair isn't cool.

I put my front bits in a french plait and moused out the rest for a few days(was still HUGE though lol), and today i got some £8 ceramic ones from ASDA :D.
