I need a new pair all my old ones are too big, I'm not in the UK so no idea what's around. I'm currently wearing Next 8r straight leg, but they are too big round the waist, but fit nicely over larger buttocks and shapely calves and thighs.

Also I'm over the hill so I don't think I can do skinny skinnies. Any recommendations?

My jeans of choice if cash not an issue are seven bootcut jeans but some people complain they are too low waisted. If I on a budget find that oasis jeans are generally a good fit again the bootcut ones as don't always feel comfy in skinnies. Sure there was a very rescent thread here on the subject of high street jeans best buys.

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty · 13/05/2010 16:50

I recently bought some straight leg ones from Boden following a suggestion on here. Not skinny, but not bootleg - I've had lots of lovely comments about them, so would recommend.

Themasterandmargaritas · 13/05/2010 17:16

Are they not quite long though Housewife? I'm only 5ft 4. Maybe I take the teenage range. I'd love some Sevens but I think that may be a pipe dream! I'd like to move on from bootcut so I like that straight leg look.

A friend had a lovely pair of straight legs on the other day and funnily enough they were a John Lewis own brand, looked great on her reckon she is 5ft 5 and probably around 9 1/2 stone.

angelene · 13/05/2010 17:39

Gap are pretty good. They have a straight version, I've gone for the curvy ones though as I am thunderous of thigh.

I'm 5'4 and they fit nicely.

Clure · 13/05/2010 18:06

topshop Martha's. Straight leg, good for small waists

Themasterandmargaritas · 13/05/2010 18:15

Gap I always find are just a little too short, slightly ankle hugging or way too long.

Do Martha's have a teensy bit of stretch in them? How do they size ie is 8 absolutely bloody tiny?

OP posts:
Clure · 13/05/2010 19:56

they do have a bit of give. I'm 6-8 and the 8 are a comfortable fit, though haven't yet washed them

Themasterandmargaritas · 14/05/2010 08:22

can I get them online? Thanks Clure, I'll give them a try.

Yep, Top Shop Marthas, I love them. I'm a 10 and find them true to size.

Clure · 14/05/2010 10:41

Martha's at topshop

Themasterandmargaritas · 14/05/2010 12:29

Thanks I like how they look but they presumably are not as baggy as it shows them? So ignoramous that I am what size waist do i go for as an 8?

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty · 14/05/2010 12:34

The Boden one's fit me perfectly length wise, but I'm 5'7" so perhaps they would be too long for you.

Clure · 14/05/2010 17:09

they are sized as dress sizes ( 8, 10, 12 etc) if I go for waist size I go for 26. They are more fitted than the pic suggests. also come in different leg lengths.

JamInMyWellies · 14/05/2010 17:18

TMAM is DH off to the US any time soon. He can go to Bloomies and pick you up 7's or citizen of humanitie jeans both very good. Joes jeans are also a good bet they have slightly higher waists, check out Bloommingdales website they have quite good online picks to see the styles.

Also Lucky Brand another US shop but they ship pretty much anywhere.

I wear a 28 waist so I would say you are defo a 26 waist.

A decent pair of boot legs are a good investment also some straight legs would be a good idea. You could do skinnies you are skinny enough.

Topshop best UK range martha are pretty good.

Gap I find never fit well with jeans and trews.

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 14/05/2010 17:32

But what about if you are not a size 8? I can never find jeans that fit nicely. They always have that horrible stretchy stuff in them and then they are 3 yizes too big after 2 washes. I am 5'7 size16/18 and hourglass in shape. All in proportion. Gap are too small (have the curvy ones but are to low in teh crotch)

cupparooibos · 14/05/2010 19:43

Seven does do a "high waisted" (more like mid-rise) bootcut style and it's lovely. I think it's called the Ginger but can't find the tag in mine.

JamInMyWellies · 14/05/2010 19:56

Lou honestly if you have the money invest in a really decent pair of jeans I have a few too many pairs some are over 7yrs old and apart form where I ruin every pair of hems they are still in perfect nick.

Themasterandmargaritas · 14/05/2010 21:15

Oh Jammy you are too sweet.

Do they come in short arse size? I'd love love love a pair of 7s or Citzens, I'll go and google Bloomingdales in the morning. I really think straight leg works for me, I think I could get away with skinnies, but you know me, I'm as yoofull as you and I don't want to work too hard at the look.

What does higher waisted mean? Still quite low? I do get annoyed at the old g-string popping out the top.... It's not really the done thing round here.

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 14/05/2010 21:16

oops freudian slip - not as yooful.

OP posts:
cupparooibos · 14/05/2010 21:37

These are the ones I have. They are not that flared -- I think the Gingers are more flared (?). I am longer waisted and have not had a problem with thong/ pants showing with these. Very flattering overall.

More shots of this style.

Clure · 14/05/2010 22:11

ooooh those 7's look nice, if only my legs were that long! 5'1 short a**e me!

cupparooibos · 14/05/2010 23:22

Clure, they are very leg-lengthening IMO. The mid-rise helps a lot with that.

Clure · 15/05/2010 13:07

cuppa does mid rise mean you can bend down without showing bum cleavage?
