I religiously use Liz Earle products, but am seeing alarming quantity of age spots and wrinkles etc, so think I need to turn to something more powerful?

I am 38, and look in the mirror and see 48, so something must be done ...

My mum (who is 65) looks about 55, and she always used Olay/Ulay (whatever it is now) and washes her face with soap!

So, may I have your recommendations for banishment of wrinkles please

marks out of 10 please for :
effectiveness
smell
texture
any other categories you can think of....

Eve Lom day cream. Factor 15. Smells gorgeous. Good for sensitive skin.

Decleor, decleor. decleor, decleor.

Both me and my mum use it, it has different products for different ages, moves up about every 10 years I think.
Find a Decleor spa or counter and get them to recommend, then buy from cheapsmells.com who charge about half the price on some items.

Their neroli oil is amazing for everyday use under moisturiser, also means you use less moisturister, mine lasts about 6-8 months.
Also night balm is my ultimate product, I use the essential balm but would depend on your skin type as there are about 5 different ones

I would suggest you try Clinique Total Turnaround under your moisturiser. It's not a moisturiser, it's a chemical exfoliant, but that's what you need for age spots and wrinkles, not moisture per se.

Also you need to start using an effective sun block to prevent any further age spots.

As regards your categories for 'marks out of 10', well Total Turnaround doesn't smell of anything really but it's very effective at 'resurfacing' your skin (it got rid of my burgeoning frown lines) and the texture of it is nice under foundation.

SPF is a purely functional product and you should either get a moisturiser with an effective sunblock in it or a product specifically designed to protect your face from the sun and use that instead of moisturiser. Sun damage is responsible for the vast majority of skin ageing so this is essential if you think you look older than you are! Who cares if it smells nice would be my thoughts. As long as it works!

creams can only do so much
I am going to get crystalclear microdermabrasion as friend had it and looks fab.
costs about £50 at my local salon
but it is my birthday next month

I am 10 yrs older than you so it maybe a bit drastic for you.

I am a complete convert to the Bioderma Crealine range, especially the Eau Micellaire make up remover. Nothing short of miraculous for old, dry, sensitive skin!

sliceofcake · 13/05/2010 14:56

thanks for these - I don't care if it has a smell, just don't fancy something with a really strong smell.

Ggirl, the microdermabrasion sounds a bit scary, let me know how you get on!

I do like Decleor stuff, so will try that one too.

Bonsoir, haven't heard of Bioderma, is that available in usual places (John Lewis etc)

Is Eve lom v v expensive ?

I will look at all of these and see which suits me best - thanks

Yes, Eve Lom vv expensive BUT gorgeous, and lasts for ever.

They often have offers on the website too - I got a gift set for a friend HALF PRICE reduced from £80 to £40 which was utterly bargainsome.

Bonsoir · 13/05/2010 19:14

To tell you the truth, I have no idea at all whether Bioderma is available in the UK. But I am a religious zealot of the newly converted sort about this brand - the products are much cheaper than high end cosmetics and are amazingly effective for dry/sensitive skin. If you go to France, any good pharmacy or parapharmacy will stock this brand. Google it.

Eve Lom is expensive but lasts a long time. Disagree that smell not important. Why would you put something that doesn't smell delicious on your face? The Eve Lom stuff smells clean and fresh and feels like it's doing some good. The cleanser with muslin cloths is really good too.

I am going to go against the popular tide because my approach is a bit clinical (or so I like to think).

Products with peptides are very effective for "repairing" wrinkles and restoring the glow of youth. There are lots of different peptides (some of Boots' line contains palmitoyl pentapeptide, a good one) in lots of different products and some are more concentrated than others (v important). My favorite is this copper peptide product.

I am also really, really impressed with this CE Ferulic.

Sorry, both links are American, and the first you have to order directly from Dr. Pickart as that's the only way they sell it. Neither product is what I would call fragrant but they work like nobody's business.
