has anyone bought the Stella McCartney denim skirt?

I'm tempted and Browns has just one left in what might be my size, but only if it comes up a little on the large side. If it is cut on the small size then they size they have available won't fit me. The sales assistant says that it comes up 'true to size' but I wondered if anyone has any other views before i pay an extortionate amount to have it delivered!!! (They wont hold it for me longer than today and I cant get there until friday).

TIA

it is vile

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/05/2010 16:03

OP - unless you are 19 and a size 6 you will look frumpola.

That skirt is ghastly.

SuSylvester · 12/05/2010 16:05

its a real emperors moment

Fimbo · 12/05/2010 16:06

Is it that pale number with the buttons up the front? My mother had one of those in the 70's.

Ghastly.

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/05/2010 16:12

Oh I do love the word ghastly.

Fimbo · 12/05/2010 16:15

I agree GOML so much so I copied you!

tulpe · 12/05/2010 16:18

ITA with the others. It may well be Stella but it is foul & certain frumpsville on anyone other than an LA starlet.

traceybath · 12/05/2010 16:52

You meanies!

I don't know how its sized but would say anything that buttons through would need to be a little on the generous side to stopit pulling/gaping.

tulpe · 12/05/2010 17:55

yeah, maybe we are being a bit mean...

I do think, however, that SuSylvester is right in saying it is rather "emperors new clothes". If it was Hennes rather than Stella, nobody would want it. I also think that the "average woman in the street" will not be bowled over by it and assume it is a cheap piece rather than a designer lovely. Having said that, those ladies in the know will swoon and sigh in an extremely jealous and covetous (is that a word???) manner!

mckenzie · 12/05/2010 21:56

wow! I didn't realise there was such a downer on this skirt. How did i miss that?
I am a size 8 GOML but certainly not 19 . I think i'll make the effort to go to the store and try the damn skirt on now. See if I look ghastly or not.

And I agree GOML and Fimbo - such a great word. I think I shall make an effort to use it tomorrow.

IMO the SM one is hideous & ridiculously overpriced.

veryconfusedandupset · 13/05/2010 15:29

It looks like something out of the M&S classic line - really hideous.

mckenzie · 13/05/2010 17:40

okay okay, enough! I won't bother going to try it on.
I'll never feel good in it now anyway .

Guess I should be grateful - you've all just saved me £195

wineismysaviour · 13/05/2010 17:51

Long tall sally do a copy..

only £38

Waffle2 · 27/05/2010 17:14

Did you buy the Stella skirt? I bought it on net a porter. They had warned that it came up small. I'm usually a curvy 12 but after a couple of weeks vowing never to eat biscuit or cakes again (and failing) I have got it for sale on ebay. Shame, as I prefer a denim skirt to tight jeans and think that although it was not cheap the cost per wear (always a good excuse for spending money) would have been excellent as I think I would have worn it lots! Also, it looked good with flats and heals for day or evening. If I don't get the reserve (I'm not willing to "give it away") perhaps this is a sign that I should re-visit the diet!

Anyone else have under active thyroid who has discovered how you can loose weight? It seems near impossible!

darkandstormy · 27/05/2010 18:40

wine is my saviour that is lovely. It looked lovely on the model, am hoping as my hair is similar {shame about my face] it would look okay on me.I am 5'8 is that tall enough for long tall sally?

wineismysaviour · 27/05/2010 19:35

I should think so, i'm 5'9 and the stuff is ok on me...

Try it, you can always take it back.

I love that Stella skirt!
It'd only be frumpy with a brown nylon roll neck jumper, and turtle shell glasses eg the frumpy one from scooby doo.

But thanks the advise here, I'll be going to my local Long tall sally, and hopefully saving myself about £150.

helicopterview · 12/06/2010 19:49

Bought the long tall sally version. Had 20% off today too, so only cost £30 and it's great!
