Any recommendations?

I work in the bloomsbury area, but don't mind travelling a bit.

For the past few years (since ds1 was born) I've used our local village place and tbh my hair looks like shit.

I need somewhere that will take time to work out what is best and help me choose a good low-maintenance style.

There's Brooks and Brooks which is on Sicilian Avenue, so very close to you. My friend gets her hair cut there, and they're very good - low key, very friendly. Otherwise, there's Aveda and Windles in Covent Garden which are also really good.

B&B looks perfect - thanks!

Tons of MNers have recommended it as well, so it should be good. (My hairdresser is at Windles - loyal to him for life, so can't comment)

oh, and any suggestions for potential styles?

I have very strong-willed thick wavy blondish hair. At the moment it is just above shoulder length with some random long layers. I usually avoid a fringe as (I think) I have a small forehead.

Brooks and Brooks!

My sister goes there, she is v. fussy and rates this place. She previously used to go to Jo Hansford so you know the required standard I'm talking about here!

mangoandlime · 11/05/2010 13:25

See you've decided anyaway, just ignore me!

muddleduck · 11/05/2010 13:28

thanks for the extra reassurance that B&B is good.

any views on style...

please....

Well, I favour short hair but that may not be your bag. have you thought about a re-style, complete change for the Summer?

Are you growing it? What general style direction are you aiming for?

muddleduck · 11/05/2010 14:26

complete restyle is what I want
I've let it grow for a while so i have more options! I tis longe than it has been for a long time.

in the past the best styles have been quite short at the back and longer at the front, but I'm open to change!

how about a Sienna Miller crop?

muddleduck · 11/05/2010 14:54

mmm. I like.

I'm thinking it would be fairly low-maintenance...

OP posts:
mangoandlime · 11/05/2010 15:53

Fairly low maintenance and very stylish! It will need a little attention to detail and frequent-ish cutting but all styles need some looking after, long or short. You don't get anything for now't!

Go for it.

muddleduck · 11/05/2010 15:56

what sort of "attention to detail"...

You will need a bit of product, prolly a finishing product to style it and only speaking personally, I have to wash my hair every other day, using dry shampoo in between times. It does dry quickly though when I do wash it, I dry it properly to 'style ' it with a paddle brush and large radial.

Nothing major, it's a breeze!

domesticslattern · 13/05/2010 22:44

Muddleduck! Can you report back?

muddleduck · 14/05/2010 12:57

Hi

so i'm fairly pleased with the results, but not ectatic...

The lovely man persuaded me not to go as short as I'd intended on the grounds that it would go more curly and out of control. He was right about this. He basically gave me a better, shorter version of what I came in with. I'm not very good at decribing styles, but it is just above my collar and softly graduated throughout. I'm a little disappointed just because it looked so fantastic when he dried it but is much less impressive when it doesn't get all that attention. still, it is huge improvement on how it was and I loved the salon - he was very friendly and took lots of time to talk through options. I particularly liked that he had lots of opinions - I hate it when hairdressers just expect me to know what I want .

so thanks for the recommendtaion AOC. I will definitely go back!

hi

another update...

I've now been back another few times to see Russel at B&B and I'm really pleased. It took a while to the initial cut to 'settle in' but without doubt these are the best haircuts that I have ever had Smile.

polyhymnia · 23/09/2010 18:53
