HELP! Home hair dye disaster - too dark!

MoonMagic · 08/05/2010 19:38

I have just coloured my hair (Nice & Easy) with a shade identical to my natural shade - on the packet it says Medium Ash Brown.

It is so much darker than I'd expected, and now I look like a Goth!

What can I do? Will it fade? It's my own fault for not doing a strand test....

Has anyone else found their hairdye doesn't come out the expected shade?

oops, posted on the wrong thread Blush

this is an old one!

GibbZZ · 15/04/2016 10:30

I know this is an old thread, but thought there may be some new answers.

I wanted a change from the medium blonde shade I've been using, maybe a shade or two darker. So I used L'Oreal Excellence Age Perfect Light Golden Brown. I now have dark brown (darker on one side than the other) hair with patches of blonde and muddy khaki. Is there anything I can do without ruining the condition? I don't really want to cut it short.

Crushed vitamin c tables works. look on you tube for how to do it. I dyed my hair too dark and it worked a treat.

neveradullmoment99 · 27/07/2016 22:56

tablets work to lighten dark hair.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 28/07/2016 10:32

My advice would be that if you want a light brown, go for a dark ash blonde. Dark blonde is essentially light brown.

Wendy to lighten dark roots you need a light blonde called 'hi lift' .L'Oreal do a couple of good ones. Look for the
blonde dye that lifts your hair by several shades and apply to roots only for the maximum time advised on the box, usually 45-50 mins . To counteract any brassiness, follow with a purple toning shampoo.

The very best hair dye is always loreal. The colour is always perfect.Nice and easy is terrible and makes your hair really dry.Another good one is nutrise. The other brands are just not as good.Usually in boots/superdrug you can get them on offer :)

I uses both washing up liquid and head and shoulders and it didn't make any difference

user1467662525 · 19/09/2017 10:45

Shazam, L'Oréal like many, test on animals. I use Superdrug own brand hair colour - own brand products are not tested on animals.

WomblingThree · 19/09/2017 10:59

Why have you bumped a 7 year old thread?

notangelinajolie · 19/09/2017 11:11

What difference does it make? It's the same problem and if you read the thread there are actually some helpful ideas.

Joannarutherford48 · 30/12/2017 20:37

WrongKindOfFace · 29/09/2018 13:10

Tracey, try the vitamin c trick. www.haircrazy.com/articles/misc-articles/how-to-remove-dye-with-a-vitamin-c-treatment/

TantricTwist · 29/09/2018 13:47

Shazam I have been using Nice and Easy shade 8 for years if I were to swap to L'Oreal what No Shade would you recommend?

I just use it to cover my roots.

TantricTwist · 29/09/2018 13:56

I think I'll stick to clairol after reading some awful reviews of the Loreal shade I would need to use 8.01.

Knowivedonewrong · 29/09/2018 17:27

This is a Zombie thread from 8 years ago. I'm sure it's sorted now! 🙄

WrongKindOfFace · 29/09/2018 17:54

Poor Tracey only coloured hers yesterday.

IcedPurple · 29/09/2018 19:12

I had a similar experience a few years ago. I normally dye my hair light blonde, but thought I'd go dark blonde for a change. Much to my horror, when I dried my hair, it was much darker than I'd anticipated. I tried many of the suggestions here - Fairy liquid twice a day and even a spot of laundry detergent - but they failed to shift the colour and just dried out my hair. I ended up re-dying it a lighter shade a few weeks later.

On the other hand... I'll bet you don't really look like a Goth! I took a deep breath before walking into the office on Monday morning, thinking I'd be greeted by a chorus of "OMG what have you done to your hair?" In fact, nobody seemed to notice at all! OK, a few days later one colleague did say "Your hair's nice. Have you gone darker?" but that was it.

I suppose what I'm saying is, we tend to be much more conscious of any changes to our appearance than anyone else is. I'll bet that if you were to go out and directly compare your hair to someone who really has 'Goth' coloured hair, you'd find it was much lighter than you had feared!
