I am going to a ball soon. I dont know what to wear. I am 5 ft 5 9 stones.I would like a dress which is not too short. I have never breen to one and dont know what to expect. It is organised by my DH company. I am 36 btw , mother of two. Just a bit nervous dont want to wear anything OTT. O ther wives attend this regularly but have not met any of them.

I used to go black tie things for work, but never a ball. I wonder what the difference is in what you wear? What does the invite say about dress code?

I used to find good stuff in Debenhams, and Monsoon.

notanidea · 07/05/2010 06:34

Not sure of the dress code.I will check it once DH has got the invitation in hand .He just agreed that he will bring me- just to make things worse,I am going for a job in the same company but different department.

For the black tie dos I used to just wear a nice dress, with heels maybe something like

this

or this

or this

But I'm thinking a ball is a different thing?

I wonder if they go for traditional ballgowns like

this

Or could you just go for any floor lenggth evening dress? How about these?

this black & white one

emerald green

ivory ballgown

black rose shoulder dress

grey drape

black ring dress

Like I said I've not been to a ball though so I'm guessing! I hope someone else can advise.

One more thing - Monsoon sale is brilliant! Worth finding out if they have one in time for you.

"just to make things worse,I am going for a job in the same company but different department."

no pressure then

FWIW in situations like this I think it is important to spend time making sure you have an outfit you feel comfortable - and you - in. And don't get too pissed

You'll be fine I'm sure

thanks for the advice - I ll watch the alcohol level and what I speak as well.I love the Kaliko dresses. I will also go to monsoon.

What's your size and budget?

notanidea · 08/05/2010 08:36

I am size 10 with just a little bit of tummy and budget can be upto 150 but for the right dress I can stretch a bit.

I've got a 16 month old. His social life is way more active than mine! I have no plans to get dressed up any time soon. But DP and I are going to go to the cinema this week, for the first time since before DS, which is actually very exciting .

notanidea · 10/05/2010 19:15

Havent been to cinema for 22 months so I am all getting excited getting dressed, arranging someone to babysit and go out.I am planning to go to the town and see what I like.
