Help!!

I have a interview at a lovely school for an ideal job and need to make a good impression.

I have nothing to wear though! [panic face]

it's been 5 years and 1 ds since my last one so old outfit has long since gone to charity shop.
I don't do suits. I'm usually smart casual a school.

The job is with y3 class so I need to look warm and caring aswell as professional

Whether you do suits or not, I think that you need to go for something fairly 'suit-like' for an interview. How about some grey wide-legged trousers with a coloured wrap cardigan, with a cami underneath it and a nice necklace?

Pinkflipflop · 06/05/2010 21:55

I have a teaching int (for my own job which I am already doing!!) on Tues.

I will be wearing this phase eight dress

Red irregular choice shoes

Funky red scarf

My job is y2

Fingers crossed for us both

tethersendisnigh · 06/05/2010 21:56

What size are you?

What about a smart dress like this?

mrsflux · 06/05/2010 22:01

I'm 5-2. Size 10/12. Short Legs. Fair skin brown shoulder length hair

not a fan of heels

duckyfuzz · 06/05/2010 22:04

I'd always say suit for teaching interview

beanlet · 07/05/2010 10:28

At this time of year, when it isn't that cold, you really can't go wrong with a formalish dress. If your budget can stretch to L K Bennett they do excellent things of this type, but even just having a look at what they do might give you some ideas.

Pinkmarshmallow · 07/05/2010 13:33

Love the Phase eight dress. And can be worn on other occassions too, change the look with different accessories etc.
Very of your interview... I'm a jobless teacher since having DD Anyway, good luck and hope it goes well for you!

pointydog · 07/05/2010 16:22

I think the dress adn shoes are very very informal

tethersendisnigh · 07/05/2010 16:33

Dress with a jacket like this in black. Black tights and black shoes.

mrsflux · 07/05/2010 17:18

Sorry tethers think you and me are on a different style wavelength. That peopletree dress does nothing for me!
After a quick consult with teacher mates we decided that no one wears shift dresses except for heads and even then its usually the more mature ladies. In my experience heads and official people from lea all go for smart casual and colour rather than black office wear.

Thanks for all the suggestions tho!

OP posts:
tethersendisnigh · 07/05/2010 17:31

Well I disagree about smart casual and colour, and I'm a teacher

Whatever you wear, best of luck for the interview- hope you get it

You asked for advice lady, you got it.

I was at a course thing with music teachers the other day. Lordy the state of them.

jamaisjedors · 07/05/2010 18:09

IMO interview v. different from what you would wear as a teacher.

You are supposed to be making an effort.

Especially as you are returning to work after being a SAHM - they will be wondering if you are up to it (sorry, but true).

You don't need to show your caring side, they see that from your CV and probably from the fact that you stayed at home with your DS (I say this as a heartless WOHM).

Your "problem" will be proving you are professional enough to do this job, and that you are not out of the game.

PLEASE wear something smart, you will feel silly in the waiting room with the other candidates otherwise.

good luck
