Can anyone save me from M & S

Please I need your help.

I'm 38 yr old, size 14 and I need a wedding outfit pronto. (Ideally will work for weddings in August and October). I'm going shopping on Wednesday but I just know I'm going to gravitate towards the very safe, and dull, M & S unless one of you can divert me elsewhere. I am very conservative with clothes so won't be wearing a skimpy backless no.

why not try monsoon, sale is on and their look works winter or summer, nice tops lovely skirts, (go bias cut, 3/4 length, on the skirts and they ll flatter u beautifully!)and then a nice bag and shoes (from M & S!!)

You're on - there are Monsoon AND M & S at Meadowhall where I'll be going shopping. Thanks.

(anymore for anymore?)

Coast do nice wedding wear.

vickiyumyum · 01/08/2005 22:12

trying to think what is in meadow hall.
principles?
wallis?
monsoon is great especially for special occasion wear as it is cut beautifully and flatters everyone.

Mind you - M&S's Per Una stuff is fab - really hippy chick and trendy right now !

bossykate · 01/08/2005 22:17

another vote for monsoon. or jigsaw or whistles. if you have a fenwicks/selfridges/john lewis near you - they have a personal shopper service specifically designed to kit out the shopping-shy for special occasions. they don't charge for the service - you just pay for what you buy - ime no hard sell either. i've done it a couple of times and didn't spend more than i would have anyway and am still wearing the stuff 3/4 yrs on - what better recommendation! enjoy your shop and hope you find something nice.

jamiesam · 01/08/2005 22:25

Scatterbrain - noooo - I'll find the crimplene!

Thanks Vickiyumyum. I have been into all those shops before so I won't be too afraid.

TwinSetandPearls - sadly the nearest Coast to here is Grimsby - not to be I'm afraid.

Thanks bossykate (sorry, distracted by BigBrother on tv) - hmmm, John Lewis, I could be a real challenge for someone!

just think - if that's really true (which i doubt) - you will be making their day if they send you away happy - just a thought

vickiyumyum · 01/08/2005 23:00

a personal shopper is a good idea especially somewhere like john lewis where they don't work on comission and they stick to your budget. its a good way of trying out new things that you would never even have picked up before.
i suggets ringing them and making an appointment for as early as poss and then you have the rest of the day to look elsewhere just in case you don't find anything. i think debenhams do a personal shopper as well thats quite good, although personally i prefer the clothes in john lewis as not all own brand or own brand designer.

Thanks!

Went to Monsoon this afternoon after work and got a lovely dress in a MASSIVE sale for only £22 (which was even less than marked up at - all sale items reduced by 70% - get yourselves down there!)

Cardi, shoes and handbag (and new pants from M & S) and I'm sorted and don't look like my Mum!

Thanks again.

jamiesam · 03/08/2005 21:26

Thanks you two.

Err, sadly dress doesn't appear on website or I'd attempt a link.

It's an extremely flowery number (the pattern is sort of '50's style?),with lots of red, orange, burgundy and brown (blimey, sounds horrid, honestly it's nice!), the cut is bias, flows from sort of fitted bustline, mid calf length.

Dh says I look really grown-up in it!!!

colours sound lovely - bit of fake tan and you'll be a real grown up stunner!!!
