I really like the way she dresses. Lots of little ditsy print dresses, wellys, wacky blouses, quirky sweaters. Don't know how to explain it but would love to dress like this. Where is a good place to buy clothes like hers.

watching with interest - I love her style

zanz1bar · 05/05/2010 21:57

Def vintage finds from second hand shops and car boot sales.
I am sure I recognized one print from old family photos.

Magicglassesfairy · 06/05/2010 10:02

Read Country Living magazine - their 'fashion' items are full of stuff like this. Always with the wellies ....

I'm sure it's all car boot stuff. I just wish there was a one stop shop so I didn't have to root around. I just don't have the time. I think her look is a bit different to the country living look. A bit more edgy or quirky than Cath kidston. REally enjoy watching edible gardening just to see what she's wearing. Plus what can I wear instead of the wellies.

Hi All
Im new today and this is my first ever online discussion !!
I am love love loving Alys and also look forward to watching her new programme.
I think old battered (not in the deep fried sense) biker boots are a good look with this style like Sandra Bullock in pratical magic when she's gardening ! Ebay is a good place to look for the retro/vintage clothes and not overpriced like the vintage shops !

Meglet · 06/05/2010 20:59

Whenever I try and get my garden to look like hers it just looks like I have re-used tatty containers as pots and never weeded.

Hers always looks like chelsea flower show

Billum · 08/05/2010 19:34

Well, she does seem to have friends who can conveniently weave willow structures for her beans to climb, or construct greenhouses out of reclaimed stained glass doors. So that helps.

burgergirl · 08/05/2010 22:49

Yes know what you mean Billum, way too many 'friends' who are super trendy and conviently can do all sorts. Plus all that super posey olde worlde nostalgia super 8 camera work is irritating as well. But I still like her quirky clothes.

Anthropologie has some stuff like that - have you looked there? Pricey though!

OnlyWantsOne · 09/05/2010 11:51

she wears charity shop chic.

ameliameerkat · 09/05/2010 11:56

She does look good. And I had my first harvest of peashoots yesterday courtesy of her . Unfortunately I don't actually like them, but the boyfriend does, so he can enjoy eating them and I'll enjoy growing them!

Thediaryofanobody · 09/05/2010 12:01

Oh will be lurking for inspiration, I watched to be inspired on gardening and ended loving her style I never look that good when gardening.
I though some of her knit wear was home made I recognized some of the colorways but I can't remember where from.

burgergirl · 09/05/2010 15:56

I think she is inspirational in lots of ways. LIke the way she does just have an ordinary house and a small garden so you feel you might have a chance of doing the stuff she does. Plus I like her wellies: she has them rolled down so she must be super slim as I can't find any wellies that fit my chunky calves.

OP posts:
louise36 · 09/05/2010 16:10

me either i also have quite chunky calves

Billum · 09/05/2010 16:25

Thing is, when I look in charity shops I never find stuff like that. (Not that it would suit me anyway - she looks good in it though.)

notso · 09/05/2010 16:42

I think you have to look in the right kind of charity shops, round here you can only buy 80's bridal wear or badly dressed Nan cast offs.

burgergirl · 10/05/2010 21:09

Yes Notso, I now despair going into charity shops. Full of primark cast offs in horrible garish colours, pink t-shirts from Next. Its all stuff the staff think is trendy or it has a label. Too depressing for words. I suppose it'll have to be car boots sales. I just find it takes ages to be able to do this. I'd rather someone set up a shop selling quirky grannyish clothes that are not in acrylic or polyester.

OP posts:
Tootiredforgodtyping · 10/05/2010 21:21

you also have to tiny like she is to fit a lot of the 60s vintage stuff.

Billum · 11/05/2010 10:12

What about eBay?

louise36 · 14/05/2010 11:05

ebay is good but everyone seems to be after vintage clothing at the moment and it is going for rediculous prices so if anyone finds any good items of clothing at car boot/charity shop you are bound to make £25 plus reselling on ebay

mrsflux · 14/05/2010 15:38

does no one else think she is channeling barbara from the good life?
dh has a massive crush on her (from that era) and is strangely interested in the gardening lady too!

louise36 · 21/05/2010 21:36

does anyone know if they have a dvd of her series coming out or somewhere i can watch the episodes again, they are not on iplayer anymore

BettyButterknife · 22/05/2010 10:27

You could try Oxfam vintage online or I thought this dress from the Pearl Lowe for Peacocks range was quite Alys Fowler-esque?

Whoamireally · 22/05/2010 13:49

Do you think she actually gardens in those clothes or is it just for TV where she can fanny about a bit whilst looking simultaneously gawkishly attractive?
