I don't want to go to my friends wedding because I can't find anything to wear

I want advice. The wedding is in the summer and dp, ds, dd and I have been invited to the service, lunch and evening do so we will all need outfits to wear all day. I haven't got a clue what to wear, I've done the usual trawling through websites but I don't want to buy something I'll never wear again but I do want something nice because no doubt the photos will end up on facebook! What does someone with massive legs wear to a summer wedding?

I'd get a maxi dress which you'll be able to wear loads in the summer. With a sparkly cardigan or shawl if it gets a bit nippy. Avoid stillettos if you'll be on grass or in a marquee.

If you do go for the linen trouser suggestion from the other thread, please don't get a pale colour. Everybody will be able to see your underwear and any blemishes/cellulite/imperfections etc that you might have.

And don't even think about not going. She's your friend, she loves you, it's her special day and nobody will be thinking about your big legs (I bet they're not that big anyway).

Agree with cuppa - get a maxi dress. There's loads around at all budgets and most can be dressed up or down. So you could shove a cropped denim jacket on and some flat sandals and where it loads afterwards.

jenroy29 you have to go to your friends wedding, there has to be a dress out there for you!... Have you looked here as they have got lots of lovely dresses for the summer this season.

I can sympathise about the whole 'legs' issue as I have a real issue over mine (not pretty at the best of times) especially when standing next to slim friends with amazing legs, plus the dreaded fb tagging and its enough to bring anyone out in a cold sweat!

Have you thought about dressing it up with something like this which you could always wear again. Team it all with some wedges which can look smart and fashionable but also mega comfy!

Good luck and hope you find something you like...

What about a linen trouser suit?

I would go for a plainish maxi dress with this sequin bolero to go over it. I really love it and am trying to think of an excuse to buy it. It would also look great with jeans, so a good investment

WannabeMakeUpArtist · 05/05/2010 21:14

That bolero is lovely but ouch at the price! It would look amazing though...

Thanks for all the advice I will go and try a few things on tomorrow. I'm a bit scared of clothes at the moment and live in jeans etc. I just needed a bit of reassurance of what other people would wear and there is still that little niggle with a dress that if someone else is wearing the same what do you do but luckily I could pop home between the service and dinner and evening do so thanks again and I'm determined now!

It is worth findign out what the surface will be, as stilletoes are dangerous at the best of times, and you could really hurt your ankle!

the company i used provided wooden flooring throughout so we could walk safely (no matter how drunk) and dnace anywhere!

IT did add to the cost, but it looked ood as well as being more fucntional - my lawn wasn't dmaged, dirt wasn't brough back into my home ..

they were great

Jenroy - how about a personal shopper? Most department stores have them and the service is free - you just tell them what you want and they do the leg work and bring it all in for you to try on. And you get the benefit of their experience/knowledge on trends, sizing, styling etc. I got in a real jeans rut a while back and went to see a personal shopper at John Lewis. I think if you're feeling a bit phased by the idea of finding a dress it would help - oh, and I wasn't put under any pressure to buy either.

Just wanted to update you all and thanks again for all the encouragement.
Have bitten the bullet and bought a patterned maxi dress, have a cardi for if it's chilly and will be wearing my sandles so won't fall off heels.
But most importantly I'm comfortable in my outfit and will enjoy the day to the max(i) lol!
