Do maxi dresses have to be to the floor in length?

Or can they be a bit shorter ie to ankles or just above? Or is that a no-mans land length and committing some fashion faux pas?

The thing is I like longer dresses, but not to floor. It feels too 'Abigails Party' or Margo from the Good Life on me.

no
I tried one on in phase eight and it was to ankle , label actually said ankle length.

I agree that they look better if you can see a bit of ankle/foot.
