How much longer can I get away with opaque black tights?

For work.

Should I now be wearing natural tights?....I'm always a bit about them. They remind me of my mum. Bare legs aren't an option. Should I just go for summer trousers?

I am always one step behind.

After weeks of warm weather, I finally epilated my legs last night while the rain lashed down in the storm.

And shivered this morning bare-legged but didn't want to wear tights because of chiropodist appt this afternoon (so didn't want sweaty feet in their face).

It is warm now outside.

I however am huddled up on the PC with blue bare legs and a fleece over my work clothes

jamaisjedors · 30/04/2010 17:11

Getorf - maybe a bit of that moisturiser with fake tan - although even that can look fake on my milk bottles.

Trousers? Am on the look out for some nice ones myself.

pointydog · 30/04/2010 17:14

Can look a bit weirdy to wear black opaques beyond April.

I'd go for summer trousers but then I don't wear skirts to work anyway

pointydog · 30/04/2010 17:15

cast ne'er a cloot till may is oot

and the 'may' refers to hawthorn, you know, not the month of may. Someone informed me once. I thought, ok smartarse

LaurieFairyCake · 30/04/2010 17:18

In south-east you should have put away long dark boots and opaques 2 weeks ago. I wore 'em and I looked stupid.

Now you can wear light coloured boots and jeans.

Yesterday i was in wedgie sandals and leggings. So, foot was out but still wearing something thick on the legs.

A big fat NO to natural tights - very ageing.

LynetteScavo · 30/04/2010 18:11

Laurie, seriously, if you saw my lower legs today, you wouldn't think natural tights were ageing.

Yeah but Lynette you are old

how about some of that sally hensen spray on tan for your feet. My mum is 63 now and she still wears American Tan tights - so they make me shudder. I do wear them to weddings though as i don't think bare legs are appropriate.

PuppyMonkey · 30/04/2010 18:17

I wore my Uggs today , I can't give those bastards up.

I have been wearing some cheapy natural tights to work all week - about £1.25 for five at Primark... you can't beat that. Felt a bit funny at first, but got used to it. My skirts kept sticking to me legs though. That wasn't a good look on the way to the car park.

TAKE THEM OFF NOW

Fine leggings under a dress, with ballet flats or flat sandals, are a very good summer look if you don't/can't do bare legs.

RedBlueRed · 30/04/2010 20:15

I wore them today for work.

It was dull, drizzly and overcast this morning and I have a cold and feel chilled and I bloody well wore them!

Mind, I have been wearing naturals all week.

cornsilk · 30/04/2010 20:16

do leggings have an age limit - aren't they a bit studenty?

Bonsoir · 30/04/2010 20:33

Nice Falke leggings have no age limit, IMO!

LynetteScavo · 30/04/2010 20:53

Bonsoir...I work in an office where it's all suits...I couldn't get away with leggings.

janeite · 30/04/2010 20:57

I would be sent home if I wore leggings to work, I think. Besides the fact that I wouldn't dream of wearing them anyway! I would rather wear sheer tights tbh.

Tocca · 30/04/2010 21:01

Today I wore leggings under dress and sandals, but it got cold this afternoon and I wished had worn flats instead.

but have seen on streets today all variations: black opaques, bare legs (which looked chilly), coloured opaques, leggings.

Bonsoir · 30/04/2010 21:17

I don't think that you can't wear leggings to work - but obviously you cannot just substitute leggings for tights under a suit that was never meant to see leggings.

I wear a dress and leggings and it looks very chic - grey leggings and a taupe dress.

LynetteScavo · 01/05/2010 08:51

You've convinced me to get some leggings...but ballet flats and leggings aren't going to cut it in my office. I wouldn't feel right if I didn't wear heels to work.

OP posts:
Bonsoir · 01/05/2010 09:12

Then you need some very now sandals with a heel. Or else it won't work!

I know a lady who must be in her late 60s - she wears wrap style dresses in an array of colours, with leggings and high heels. Sounds horrendous I know, but she looks amazing. I wish I could carry it off like she does. Mind you, she has been a dancer all her life and carries herself beautifully and elegantly.
