Beach hair

Does anyone know of a product that achieves that tousled each hair look??

Y'know like this (Oh and a product that gets me that face too please )

I have long thick hair and want something I can spray into my hair and then scrunch so it looks all beachy but not frizzy or sticky like it does with mousse.

Anyone?

easy beach hair is a massive fiction unless your hair looks like that naturally

that model's hair has been straightened and then tonged

you could try spraying with salt water and leaving to dry naturally (unless you are curly in which case it will just curl)

or using dry oil for skin on straight or straightened hair

all the beach hair products are horribly sticky and dry-making

MarthaFarquhar · 28/04/2010 14:09

my hair looks like that in it's natural state.

it's great for the beach

but a bit shit for the other 51 weeks of the year when I try, and fail, to create a veneer of sleek professionalism.

paisleyleaf · 28/04/2010 14:10

My DH had a gel called 'out of bed hair' that I'd nick sometimes. That was pretty good.

paisleyleaf · 28/04/2010 14:16

the pot looks like this
You just have a tiny bit on your finger tips and tip you head upside down a tousle it, a bit like if you use serum.
Actually any serum might do it.

PestoMonster · 28/04/2010 14:24

Bunny, get the Bumble & Bumble stuff, it works a treat.

plimsolls · 28/04/2010 16:20

I think it might depend a bit on what your hair does naturally. The following works well for me but my hair does have a bit of a wave to it and is quite coarse as it is v. bleached.

Wash hair. Leave to air dry for a bit. Use a hair dryer at the roots (my hair quite thick so needs this for a bit of a root-boost).

Tiny bit of mousse. Twist random small sections of hair into ropes. Spray a small amount of beach spray on. Use hair dryer + diffuser, gently, on ends.

Finish with a but of bumble + bumble "brilliantine", which is a wax/cream thing that addds texture and shine, but only use a small amount as can make hair go a bit lank. Apply on the random twists etc that you created earlier (which will be working their way out now after the diffusing).

HTH

Also, I find that if my hair is a bit dirty, attacking it with dry shampoo (batiste etc) and brilliantine, twisting it and diffisuing it gives a bedhead-y beach-y look which is nice for a night out.

plimsolls · 28/04/2010 16:22

Oh also, when I was a teenager trying to achieve a similar, I used a combination of diet coke (on the ends) and suncream (on the lengths). IIRC, it looked quite good!

But feel free not to try. Can't imagine it was very good for my hair.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 28/04/2010 16:29

DD wants to be reading this methinks.

Her hair is a bit like the model's and she uses Umberto Giannini (sp) natural curls spray which she squirts everywhere on her hair when wet, then leaves it to dry. She was talking about some salt spray to get this beachy look even more, I was like

RatherBeOnThePiste · 28/04/2010 16:31

Bunny - is your hair curly or wavy?

mangoandlime · 28/04/2010 16:35

Lee Stafford Sea Salt Spray

RatherBeOnThePiste · 28/04/2010 16:36

This is what DD uses, and it seems to work well.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 28/04/2010 16:38

Cheers Mango - I will show her this, so she can give it a whirl (or a curl or a twirl)

cordonbleugh · 28/04/2010 16:38

plait it when its wet! don't undo it until it's dry - hey presto - beachy wavey hair!

cordonbleugh · 28/04/2010 16:40

oops, forgot to say that I usually just do 2 pigtail plaits

bluebump · 28/04/2010 16:43

John Frieda's Beach Blonde range had the best product for this but sadly the whole range was discontinued a few years ago. I've tried a few products that have never matched it but may give that Lee Stafford one a go. I tried this which is ok but I think my hair is too thick for it really.

BunnyLebowski · 28/04/2010 17:26

Wow! Thanks for all the replies!

My hair is wavy. And very very thick. Plaiting when wet seems to leave me looking a bit like this

I've actually made some salt spray today and applied it and then sectioned my hair and twisted it.

Will try and post a pic when I take it down!

My hair goes like that if I don't condition it and tie it up in a loose bun when its damp.Take it down when dry and voila!
