Hi,

I need a dress for my DTs christening. I'm 5'5", size 16 and dumpy, with a fat post twins belly and legs that are only ok below the knee (oh how lovely do I sound!).

Any suggestions please? Am going to Trafford Centre shopping on Friday so will have access to most high street shops.

Will be watching this thread with interest. 5.5 isnt short by my standards by the way lol

Oh god does the lack of response mean that my only option is to wear a sack, or a small marquee?????

I must hang round with tall people then, as I always seem much shorter than my friends/family!

listen I am 5ft and dumpy. I wore a lovely top-floaty summer top with built on shrug/short cardy thing and linen trousers and heels to something the other day.....hides a multitude of wobbly bits. Also found that the tops that have an uneven hem line work a treat too....

Any help?

Agingmumoftwins · 29/04/2010 11:30

Ooh sounds good, I've seen those uneven hemmed tops but only tried one that was somewhat snug fitting across my tum. I'll look around for something looser in a similar style!

Not tried linen trousers with heels, only flats, which makes me look even more dumpy! Will try them with heels as I've seen some lovely ones in Next.

Many thanks for your help, looks like I'm saved from wearing a marquee

I have had twins albeit 5 years ago-was slim after twins and then enormous after I had my surprise dc4!.Can you make an appointment with a fashion adviser in the trafford centre?.Or find a sympathetic shop assistant who can advise you in Selfidges?[i think there is a selfridges there or is it a harvey Nicks!]There are lots of links for wrap dresses on S&B - Isabella Oliver seems to be well-regarded which would be flattering on you.The only shop i have been in RL recently is Matalan . Although I have posted several times about the clothes I honestly do not work for them. The only dresses there that are suitable for a christening are the ones by " Jeff" on the website. There is a grey one - empireline that has got a good review. However i'm guessing that you probably want something rather more special for the big day.The only other clothes i can suggest are dressy silk kaftans that will flatter your shape. There are lots on the warehouse website.I hope some of this information helps

Hi ladies thanks for all of your help!
Here's the dress I bought in the end:

Fenn Wright Manson

It's v flattering and makes me look like I've got a proper waist, not a wobbly post-baby belly!

But I also bought 2 uneven hemmed tops for 'playing out' and a maxidress that I'll live in all summer
