Whistles?

their curent range of dresses - is it me, or is none of this wearable?

I used to love Whistles...is it me that's got older/fatter..(hence dislike of shorter hemlines,) or have they got blander and less fitted in style? The stuff i have from them circa 2005 is all very feminine, colourful, decorative...

I think most of those dresses look they are intended to be worn with leggings...

I've got a couple of their jersey tops as they're a good fit and quality.

But totally agree regarding their dresses - I'm small (size 6-8) and they make me look awful/enormous. I think they cut for pear shapes so if you're not - they're seriously unflattering.

I'm glad I'm not the only one - I have a voucher for £145 that I just cannot spend as I'm a size 12, but all their clothes make me look huge. I bought a winter coat that I took back and they would only give me a credit note/voucher and not a refund. I had never bought from there before so didn't realise this was their policy. I'm really struggling to use it.

i wondered why no-one ever linked to their stuff - they used to do ultra-desirable dresses, skirts and trousers - stuff of the 'could wear to wedding' and 'would definitely wear to party' variety and i love their classic Whisltles cardi/ jumper with odd buttons

but now the whole range covers shades from slate to denim, and frankly - if i wanted to buy that kind of thing, I'd be getting it heaper from somewhere like River Island.

Ex-Topshop woman is in charge now and all the magazines love her. I am a short size 12 but Whistles size 12 things bury me and they are deffo cut for v tall women with no curves I think.

Melfish · 27/04/2010 21:28

totally agree- Whistles used to have an excellent range of stuff, I haven't seen anything I like for about 2 years now. Thought it was just me!

traceybath · 27/04/2010 21:37

And their website is beyond shite.

I actually emailed them one day to say how unusable it was - never got a response.

And you're right Janeite - the fash mags appear to love it but I just don't see the appeal.

Jigsaw and Comptoirs much better and same sort of prices.

In the Observer this week they were raving about the Whistles silk grey parka. I looked at it and thought it was the strangest thing. Who would pay 200 for a silk jacket?

EggyAllenPoe · 28/04/2010 13:58

that explains why it looks like Topshop, but with Whistles prices....

tis a shame - they use to stuff quite different to other shops, you could feel quite certain that whatever debt-inducing amount you'd spent, you wouldn't find somethng similar but less costly elsewhere...

i had a look through Cosmo online, and yes, they were raving about this sort of style (the grey shift dress, the one-shoulder body hugger..also in grey)

those denim dresses/tunics are the pits.just seen a nicer denim dress in tesco for an iota of the price.

FrancesFarmer · 28/04/2010 23:48

I actually like Whistles, preferably on sale but yes, some of their dresses fit really weirdly.

I actually have one of their denim dresses (this one:www.asos.com/Whistles/Whistles-Colour-Block-Denim-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=965654) and make no apologies for it - it gives me a waist and is practical and easily washed for everyday usage.

kittya · 28/04/2010 23:54

and, its sold out!!

Salbysea · 28/04/2010 23:59

I like the multi check wrap over dress on the OPs link

but how rubbish is their site, the models all look SOO miserable and are in awful, unflattering poses!

and it just looks weird, all those teeny pics of teeny sad girls
