Really impressed with Next linen trousers this year.

They seem better cut and smarter than my last few pairs, and don't have pockets on the bum like my old ones, which is a bonus! Only £20 as well!

Does anyone who has to buy long leg have the cropped linen trousers? I'd like a pair but don't know whether to go for long or regular?

dont know if this helps but i usually wear a petite leg trouser and the regular cropped linens at next are very long on me and sit halfway between my knee and ankle with an inside leg of 18 inches.

MrsMeow · 27/04/2010 12:10

Thanks bossyboop

My inside leg is 31/32" and the regular cropped trousers are 22" so I might just go for those. I should go and try them on instire really but the thought of trouser shopping fills me with dread!!!

I would imagine the regulars would be long enough then by the sounds of it otherwise if they are too long then can end up looking like they are just regular pants that are too short for you, tbh i get all my Next pants from ebay all brand new with the tags on paying between £4 and £18 a pair includidng p&p my mum was quite disappointed last summer to see that a pair of cropped pants she had just bought in next for £15 were exactly the same as the pair i bought brand new off ebay for £8, a lot of them arrive with £26 and £37 price tags on which takes a lot of the boredom factor out of it!

MrsMeow · 27/04/2010 15:44

Ooh ebay is a good idea! And I know that Next pants fit me ok, so I won't be disappointed!

I'll have a look now, thanks!

I love Next linen troos, just a word though about their sizing and eBay, always get them to measure the waist etc. I have the same pair of trousers this season in three colours from Next but in two different sizes. Even within the same colour sizes can vary widely. Don't rely on the size description alone. (Not that any seasoned eBay shopper would anyway, but Next are particularly ones to watch!)

MrsMeow · 27/04/2010 15:56

Yes, I know what you mean about the sizing. I've got 2 pairs of jeans in the same style but different colours. Both are my size (14) but one pair look really nice and fit well and the others look awful and hang off me!

I only buy pants from Next for the leg length really. I have a strange inside leg measurement that means that regular trousers flap around my ankles so I need long length, but long from any other shop are too long. It's a pain in the bum!

I like that you call them 'pants' MrsMeow. (Are you American, perchance?)

Personally I think we should bring back calling them slacks.

MrsMeow · 27/04/2010 19:24

Haha I didn't even realise the pants thing - I'm not American, no! I think it's because I was aware in one of my messages that I was writing 'trousers' too many times

You're lucky I used pants anyway, I also say 'kecks' DS calls every pair of trousers, jeans. Even pjs!

Slacks makes me think of those old lady trousers that you can buy in the Sunday supplements. Usually in varying shades of beige.

Yes, 'slacks' is what my Nan says. Hers usually have a nice crease ironed in.

MrsMeow · 27/04/2010 20:17

Oh yes, they need to have the ironed in crease. Mavis down the bingo swears by hers.

Talking of creases, I saw the cutest old man today in a pair of dark blue jeans with a crease down the front. It made me feel all emotional, thinking of him/his wife ironing them lovingly!

My nan had a sewn in crease down the front and back of her Gloria vanderbelt jeans!

mangoandlime · 27/04/2010 22:05

Should that be Vanderbilt ? Yes, I think so.

MrsMeow · 27/04/2010 22:58

I'd never heard of Gloria Vanderbilt so just googled and I say! Your Nan had expensive taste - £100+ for a pair. And that was a pair without sewn in creases!

My Nan is more likely to wear Bon Marche slacks.

ps: just noticed above that you said 'troos'. I bloody love that word!

tbh, this was in the 80s, MrsMeow, she's in her 80s herself now but she's always been into her clothes and very well dressed, bless her heart.

MrsMeow · 28/04/2010 10:11

I love seeing well dressed older ladies I saw one in town the other day dressed all in white with a gorgeous scarf. She looked v glam and much better dressed than I will ever be!
