Help me find a dress for my big birthday

OK, people of style and flair.... I'm 40 very soon. I'm having a ceilidh so outfit has to be danceable in.
I am 5ft 6 and sadly have put on weight so am now a size 12. I used to be an 8 so i have no idea how to dress for my new shape.
Still modest of norkage, but big of butt, and wide of shoulder. my colouring is fair.
My buget is fairly limited - up to £100. Please help, at this rate I'll be wearing ''jeans and a nice top''

god, pointy that ted baker one is perfection! (except for the price).
I mean £30 versus £130. WWYD?

have ordered the joe browns one as i can always send it back if it doesn' suit....

It's your 40th Ellie! you deserve the perfect dress.

Try both on, compare and contrast. The JB one might look better on or be a better fit or whatever. But try the TB one too, just in case.

You would get wear out of it apart from your birthday ceilidh I'm sure

right, the green tiered joe browns dress is awful on me.

it is thin and not supportive round boob area at all and filmsy and sort of cheap.

Right, then you need to go and try on the Ted Baker one now. Just in case it's also no good, then you can cross it off your list and move on.

If it's perfect. Well, it's your 40th. I know it's over budget but the perfect dress.... that's priceless

elliemental · 29/04/2010 19:37

ah yes but...
this is just wonderful and rather appropriate for me

I do actually adore the Vivien of Holloway stuff.

I don't think I could carry it off, but I do love it. Do it, you'd look great

I wore Vivien of Holloway for my 40th in scarlet. They are divine dresses and a dream to dance in.
