Anyone bought a Vivien of Holloway dress?

i've been drooling over the website and want to order one.

I am between sizes though so not sure whether to size up or down. Do they come up small, or is bettre to be a bit tighter and fitted rather than a bit baggy?

Also, could they be worn as a day summer dress without a petticoat or are they too dressy and just more special occasion wear?

I fancy a red one with black petticoat for a ball and wedding, and spotty one for holiday but without a petticoat.

Any advice?

fridgepants the Whirling Turban dresses are very well made - the little boleros are fully reversible and the fabrics are lovely. The off the peg styles are worth the price in my opinion. I wore mine a zillion times and every time I put it on I got comments and compliments all over the place. I haven't worn it for ages as I was carrying pregnancy weight - finally lost the weight and then got pregnant again a few weeks later, d'oh!

The Vivien of Holloway dresses are good value if you want a wardrobe full of swing style dresses - I have lots of friends who have tons of them, and they look beautiful on. The Whirling Turban ones are more of an investment as they cost more, but I would say it's the difference between buying a dress for a night out in Top Shop and buying a classic dress that you'll wear for 10 years in Jaeger - each one has its place depending on what you're looking for and what your budget is. The Whirling Turban are worth saving for, but the Vivien of Holloway are very very nice too.

Well, I'm pretty disappointed in VOH this morning.

On their Facebook page, they've linked to a review by (I'm assuming) TwinsetMum (similar wording in her post and the review), the review being dated from 2008, and are encouraging people to flood Qype with positive reviews. This is the text from the FB post -

Well ladies, I read this this morning and to be honest I couldn't be bothered to reply. This women has just decided she is gonna slate me whatever I do. Maybe you would like to leave some feed back of your experiences rather than let her deprive anyone of some of our lovely dresses.
There is always one that no matter what will always complain!!
So feel free to leave feedback of your experiences.

I've responded, saying how utterly unprofessional this is, but I don't think it's sinking in. VOH's behaviour in this is making me think twice before buying from them - would rather spend more on a Whirling Turban now.

My mistake, link on FB was to a 2008 review for some reason, but the review mentioned in VOH's post is from 2012.

Thanks for saving that. It is actually important that someone that successful has a few negative reviews and allows them to exist without worry. I've read negative reviews and still purchased from seller. I think that the Ebay factor is very important because many without a great deal of money may want to save IF they know the option exists on a very current item. I work, I have two kids, I can't let 50 quid just slide away unnoticed. I'm not sure how cool it was to ask her troops to flood Qype and honestly as she's such a success I don't get it. Oh well, onwards and upwards.

I haven't tried VOH as I'm too fat however I can heartily recommend Hell Bunny and Queen of Holloway, the QOH dresses I have have been good quality for cheap prices. Postage is quick and I've always been pleased.
