Found: Jeans that actually fit my disproportionally large stomach/apple figure

Had to suffer the agony of jeans shopping yesterday. I am sort of an apple shape and jeans often are not high enough to contain the flab or when they are, they end up gaping at the back and after two wears I can pull them down without undoing them or they are massive on the leg as well as the waist.
Anyway went to Gap because I had a money off voucher and after a very depressing half hour tried on the 'sexy bootcut'.
The name made me want to vom, however they are GREAT. Stomach contained but don't feel like I am constricted but no bagging on the back, fitted on the thighs and in fact v slimming, flare not tooo big. I know bootcut are a bit naff but these are flattering, fit well and although I have not got to the critical second wearing I am going to make the bold statement that I am positive there is no way they will be able to be removed without undoing. HOORAY

I tried the 'curvy' ones that were recommended on a recent post- I've got a fat tum but small hips- but found they cut across my flab when I sat down, so went for the next size up but they were big everywhere else (and too long). I may have a look at the 'sexy bootcut' (ghastly name) instead as I too have the voucher thingy.

I find Next Boyfriend jeans are the only ones that suit me. Will be gutted when they stop doing them.

Substandard · 24/04/2010 17:47

I agree Melfish, the curvy ones weren't any good. Made my legs look very stumpy because they were so big on the thigh and the 'shaped waistband' seemed specially designed to under my paunch while the rest for the jeans were quite high up my body. I looked delightful!

thanks for the tip ladies will see if Gap go up to my size....

Substandard · 24/04/2010 17:53

Chaos - I am a 16 (34 waist) in Gap but had to get a 14 (32waist). That also cheered me up

Will they stretch though? I haven't bought gap denim in ages because it all seems to grow about 2 sizes during the course of a day.

Substandard · 24/04/2010 18:03

Hmmm not sure. Feels sturdy but will wear a few more times before I make an official pronouncement on the stretching front. Really hope not - am hoping this is the answer to all my denim problems.

I hope so too

If they do stretch though - take them back - I've done that before and they refunded with no quibbles.

Substandard · 24/04/2010 18:12

Really? That is very good. More places should do that - may be then they would stop foisting their crap materialon us.

Thanks for the tip, I am bit apple shaped and find buying jeans a total nightmare.
Keep us posted on the stretch/sag front!

Wolfcub · 24/04/2010 21:23

gap essential fit are really good for thunder thighs if that helps anyone. Their curvy ones are pretty good for the generously hocked too

I like their straight ones.
Got two last time.

Melfish · 24/04/2010 23:03

Substandard, just to confuse you- I'm normally a 14 but had to get a 16 (34 waist) in the curvy . The 14s fitted better everywhere bar tum but got overhang when I sat down. Am glad you found nice jeans to suit you, jeans shopping can be so depressing!

skihorse · 25/04/2010 07:25

As a pear - I can tell you that Next/New Look/M&S clothes (especially jeans) do not fit AT ALL - so that might be a starting point!

Substandard · 25/04/2010 08:12

TeamEdward - yes I found them quite slim on the legs, well thighs, compared to the capacious waist.

i am a slim lollipop ( apple on a stick) and find Gap Skinny flare jeans are a good fit on me . In the January sale I got 4 pairs for a tenner each ( I think its last years style)

i don't care if flare/bootcut is not " on trend" , skinnies or carrot jeans look ridiculous on me. I need the flare at the bottom to balance out the huge norks
