I'm going to a bar mitzvah

I've bought this dress:

which strikes the right note of formal and chic, I felt. I HOPE!

But I've got to find shoes to go with it. I'm a size 9 so I don't have a lot of choice.

What do you think of:

these

Or

these in black

I've got a black leather handbag so would suede shoes be ok?

Opinions please.

Lovely dress. I like the second shoes. The first ones are a bit officey

tulpe · 20/04/2010 22:13

Dress is lovely but I would go for heeled sandals. Both of those shoes look too clumpy and office-like imo.

kittya · 20/04/2010 23:41

Bargain! what colour did you get? I think strappy sandals or maybe kitten heeled shoes.

gtamom · 21/04/2010 08:07

Of the 2 pairs of shoes you showed, I think the second pair look nicer, with the higher heel.
Love the dress, and if I could wear heels, the shoes as well.

APassionateWoman · 21/04/2010 08:33

Great dress. You need dressier shoes, though. I'd go for a peep-toe wedge, strappy sandals or a sexier heel. Something a bit more edgy than the ones you've chosen.

WinterRose · 21/04/2010 09:50

Lovely dress.

I wouldn't wear suede for a formal occasion. You can get away with court shoes with your "killer" dress and some statement jewellery and a hat, then no-one will really look at your feet. If you can rustle up some dressier shoes, perhaps court shoes with a slimmer heel (kitten heel?) and decoration then so much the better.

ComeAgain · 21/04/2010 18:02

Great dress! Awful shoes - you'll ruin the look. You need a slimmer heel. Kittens are the way to go.

kittya · 21/04/2010 19:08

Yep, thats what I thought and they are everywhere this season. The shoes are too clumpy and old fashioned. Its great dress. Are you wearing a little cardi with it?

WinkyWinkola · 21/04/2010 22:29

A little black jacket.

Thank you all for your tips and comments. I can't just go into any shoe shop and buy a pair of shoes though. I get laughed out of shoe shops for having freak feet!

ClickNegg · 21/04/2010 22:32

here

ClickNegg · 21/04/2010 22:33

these will sort dress and not make everyone look at your "big" feet

kittya · 21/04/2010 22:34

Theres a couple of tbar shoes there that I think might work.

ClickNegg · 21/04/2010 22:37

WinkyWinkola · 21/04/2010 23:01

Em there are usually two parts to a barmitzvah. The first bit is the sabbath service on the sat morning and the second bit is the party, which is usually on a Sunday.

Sorry if you know this already, but if you are going to the sat morning bit you will need to make sure that your arms are covered to the elbow or lower in most synagogues. It all depends on how religious the host and hostess are as to what you can uncover at the party.

mathanxiety · 22/04/2010 02:57

Get something comfy for footwear. BarMitzvahs are long and can sometimes involve dancing depending on the congregation and tradition. And you should aim for modest/covered, as Pippop1 says. General ideas here and here. Gift ideas are in dollars here but the multiples of 18 holds true everywhere AFAIK

kittya · 22/04/2010 23:09

Depends on your hosts how glittery its going to be. A friends grandsons costs 20 grand, whats all that about?!!!

theresnogoodnamesleft · 23/04/2010 07:32

Hi,

Just to add, depending on the synagogue married women are expected to cover their head, either with a hat or shawl, If you are going to the service at the synagogue I would check with the hosts.
