Is it OK to wear a denim jacket over a summer-y dress?

..and if so, where can I buy one?

I mean, I know it's a bit 90's, but I'm sure I've seen it in a couple of magazines. And I know you ladies will stop me from doing it if it's a fashion faux pas...

I'm 14wks PG with my 2nd so I'm already having issues getting my belly into normal clothes... and all my maternity clothes are winter ones. But I'm thinking I can do for a while in tunic tops or short dresses over leggings, but I'll need a jacket over the top - not necessarily maternity, as it doesn't have to button up...

But I looked round the shops yesterday and couldn't see any. And I thought, Oops, maybe I was wrong about this... better ask on MN!

It looks good.

Gap, New Look, Warehouse, Oasis all have them in.

I got mine in gap kids but am a munchkin.

I love the denim jacket over summery dress with nice flats and big sunglasses look! Go for it!

Gorgeous but ££

Cute?

superv1xen · 20/04/2010 11:10

yeah it looks really nice i think. and v fashionable at the mo.

i am looking for the perfect denim jacket too!

RooBear · 20/04/2010 11:11

I love Joe Browns and and Wrangler do good ones, I think the jacket over the dress is making a big comeback (well that what the bible heat magazine says)

ABitBatty · 20/04/2010 11:13

I got one very similar to the Joe browns one from Primark for £13

I have a denim jacket - and think it looks cute over a sun dress.

BendyBob · 20/04/2010 11:15

Ooh will lurk with interest. I rather like that look over a pretty dress too, but am also unsure if it's committing some unwritten fashion faux pas or not.

I like a jacket for drawing a veil over my slightly less than perfect arms, but don't want anything formal looking.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 20/04/2010 11:41

Phew, OK, the look is do-able.

Thanks for links - er, maybe should have mentioned that I am size 16-18, so the trendy young folks shops not always an option

The joe Brown one is showing as sold out for me now, that was quick!

I looked in New look, didn't see any, but it has just occurred to me that they have a separate 'denim' section that I maybe should have tried. Doh.
Will have a look in Primark - am SAHM so my clothing budget is not a household priority!

Oh, found the Joe Browns one now. 'A great look when teamed with dresses or tunics' apparently!

This is all good news!

I think I might even have one tucked away from the 90's but may have to review that for a newer one.

OrmRenewed · 20/04/2010 12:02

Hope so as that is what I'm wearing now.

Wuxiapian · 20/04/2010 12:20

I did it yesterday with leopard print dress, leggings and knee-highs.

Am doing it today with floral dress, tights and boots.

I have a lighter/stonewashy type short denim and a darker indigo one, too.
