What do you wear on your legs when you want to get them out but you're the wrong side of 40?

And the wrong side of a size 14? I can't wear jeans all summer... want to show a bit of leg, have terrible knees though. Most shorts are too short, and longer ones make me look like a scout leader.

joggers with long t-shirt ???

I don't get my arse out, gawd

HeadFairy · 19/04/2010 22:32

The talc is a good temporary solution, though if things are a bit sweaty it can turn in to a glue like consistency!

for those of us with less than slim thighs

footless tights are a godsend though obv not practical on very hot days (assuming we get any)

wafty wide-legged linen trousers are very cool and nicely covering to pudgy knees (of which I possess some very fine specimens)

KnottyLocks · 19/04/2010 23:02

Although I am a shortarse, I have just bought some of

these

They are very lovely and flattering and look much nicer on. The waist is not elasticated and the tie is just at the front so doesn't bulk.
But under no circumstance wear them with those shoes.

cyb · 20/04/2010 07:34

yes def to wedges with rolled up stuff

Bonsoir · 20/04/2010 07:53

Rolled up thin skinnies in pale khaki or grey with a very wide leather belt are this season's favourite trouser... Wear with clogs, which have great leg-slimming properties (especially with said leather belt).

bellissima · 20/04/2010 08:13

I wear capris or cut offs - with sandals. Agree with faustina - straight(ish) skirts look a lot better, particularly if you are a 5'3 short-arse. I just look like a mini-mushroom in a flared skirt - they are very aging as well.

AnyFucker · 20/04/2010 08:17

how does a belt slim your legs ??

HeadFairy · 20/04/2010 09:38

Perhaps if you pull it in reeeeally tight all the blood gets trapped above it and your legs wither away to skinny strips of flesh AF?

now you're all going to piss yourselves, but for thigh chaffing you need these
they are like the tops of tights but without the tights iyswim. tres comfy but -10 on the glamour scale

MissWooWoo · 20/04/2010 10:04

KristinaM yes! join my club, do. I'm afraid I can't recommend anything currently as am up to my eyes in renovation plans (house not thighs unfortunately) and no time to look/shop. I should really be packing the kitchen up rather than sitting here typing this but aaaarrrggghhhhh ... the task is just TOO BIG.

I am lucky (?) that my extra thighage occurs mostly on the outside so don't suffer from chaffing. The only time my legs were bigger I was wearing maternity jeans/lounging pants so was never an issue, but having had a quick look how about something like these sexy numbers? Who's to know?

MissWooWoo · 20/04/2010 10:07

ahh pipped at the post by Cheappinkfizz with a far superior product!

Tiggsybabes · 20/04/2010 10:21

I'm 41 & a size 14, I wear Clarks flats in the summer as my smarter shoes (mary jane crocs for casual) I find summer easier to dress for than winter, I live in 3/4 length trousers / jeans.

Bonsoir · 20/04/2010 10:43

Big belt and chunky footwear = make your legs look (relatively) slimmer... It's like the massive ugly It-bag effect - women look prettier and more delicate in comparison to their big ugly bag.

msbossy · 20/04/2010 12:16

Am under 40, over a 14, short, wide hips, and fat legs (all the way down and no matter what my dress size is). There are NO good options. Jeans and cargos all the way. I do have nice feet so a cute pair of flip flops is my summer saviour :-)

dublinmom · 20/04/2010 13:13

To stop chafing: Antiperspirant on thighs. Let dry. Then talc.

AnyFucker · 20/04/2010 14:24

that's no way to talk about your partner, bonsoir !

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 20/04/2010 16:16

Chunky legs in the summer are DIFFICULT.

From my vast experience, I find that drapey near ankle-length jersey A line skirts in a plain colour work better than most, but the material has to be thick, and not tight across the vpl area. Chunky flip-flops are good. Wedges are great if you can find any comfy enough to actually walk anywhere in (assuming you need to do this).

Re thigh rubbage, slatherings of anti-perspirant works very well I find.

springlambanana · 21/04/2010 17:28

Good tips about the anti perspirant dublin and cider.

Any particular brand?
