I need a wedding dress help!

I may have to bring my wedding forward, which leaves me precious little time or money to find a dress.

I have a budget of about £200,(If it is cheaper than this great!)

I think I am after something pretty and elegant, but not formal, something I could wear again if possible.

It will have to be made out of material that can be altered as I have huuge norks! 43" bust, 32" waist.

I am 5'5 if that makes a difference?

I would like a white background but flexible on pattern.

Please help me!

What about one of these

i like the tunic one but might not look right with big norks

or here

senseofhumourfailure · 18/04/2010 21:40

i have found lovely dresses on bhs online at amazing prices.

Hmmmm, well there are quite a few dresses on the high street but having the same large norks, small waist issue as you, I think its safe to say they will not fit you well and a wedding dress is one you want to look good in! You could buy one that you like (trawl the high street chops;Monsoon like this perhaps?, Debenhams maybe?, etc and try loads on) then get a local seamstress to alter it to fit. Probably take about a week or so.

Try ringing round wedding shops to see if they have any larger samples in the sale - these would be cheaper than the same dress normally. If you explain the situation I think that a lot of them would be helpful (if they had anything) then if it is a corset back you might get away with it, or again, could get it altered. Again, probably a week or so.

Also could try an online site like Milly Bridal, they will make a dress to your measurements (prices are in dollars but have converters) but this wold take a bit longer, 20 dayish if you paid for rush delivery BUT would get a much better fit as it is hard to take in a dress at the waist that much.

Congratulations! Hope all goes well.

I would go for something with proper shoulders, not strapless, as wearing a proper bra and shapewear underneath will give you a fabulous figure that you could never get with a strapless bra, plus no muffin-bulge risk from the rear view.

I would also buy one from ebay or a wedding dress exchange shop with a budget of say £100 and get a dressmaker to alter it - if you buy to fit your bust & shoulders it's easier to take in the waist, especially if dress is not too structured.

maxi

I like the black and white as well

tootootired · 18/04/2010 21:48

Also how about doing the bustier-top-and-skirt thing, you might be able to get someone to make you a top and you could buy a toning skirt off the peg, these would be more flexible for wearing later.

Ooh the monsoon simone dress is nice..

Unfortunately, I am in the sticks so I do not have much chance to go serious bridal shopping.
My norkiness is due to breastfeeding.. which is another imposition on the dress!

So just need to stick with companies that have a good returns policy!

Hopefully I won't have to rush the wedding too much, just a family member is having health issues, I just hope they will be ok

I am surprised at BHS some nice stuff there thank you!

If it is a quick wedding it will be August ish time.

I like some of these, what did you think about this? I don't mind getting creative and changing straps and adding details?
I did want a longer length by the way, I also need a full back to disguise the mangy feeding bra I will probably be wearing!

I think this is so elegant

tootootired · 18/04/2010 22:12

this any good - Debenhams?

Purplebuns · 18/04/2010 22:14

I do like that Debenhams one! I am going to have to try and get out to our nearest 'city' lol

My wedding dress was actually a bridesmaids dress in ivory. Much cheaper than a wedding dress!

ameliameerkat · 18/04/2010 22:29

You could try these guys?
www.styleshake.com
You design your own dress (so you could choose the front and back of the top to be bra friendly) and they have ivory silk dupioni (you can order swatches). You do have to stick to one size (so you would need to get a size 16 perhaps) but at £69 for a silk dress that leaves money for alterations? Or you could contact them to see if they could make it to your measurements? You can choose corsage and wraps etc for extra to dress it up further.

Hope you find something you like!

Purplebuns · 18/04/2010 22:41

Ooh styleshake is fun! I am currently playing, it looks like they may do alterations! Have you used them before Ameliameerkat?

ameliameerkat · 19/04/2010 20:32

It is fun! I have been playing on it also. I haven't used them before. I wish I had an occasion to need a dress like they sell though so I could buy one! Let us know if you get something from there!

PlumSykes · 19/04/2010 21:17

the femme fatale ball gown here comes in ivory. They make to order, you just give your measurements, so would fit you perfectly

corkythecat · 19/04/2010 21:26

Oooh was just going to link to styleshake. I got my wedding dress from there. Got a green strapless flared skirt dress and it fitted perfectly. Was excellent quality too. The stitching is fantastic and the dress was lined too.

Purplebuns · 19/04/2010 23:01

PlumSykes, have you had a dress from them? Are they nice?

I will let you know if I go the styleshake route girls

Although I am still loving this! in www.next.co.uk/shopping/branded/fashionforher/29/3 white
