Is there such a thing as knitwear which doesn't go bobbly....

... because I'm arsed if I can find any. I ordered 2 of the lovely Boden favourite cropped cardis and they were gorgeous but went bobbly within about 4 washes. I've never had any knitwear which doesn't go bobbly and I'm wondering if there is anything out there which would stay nice. I can't wear wool or anything even remotely scratchy...

No. I've never found any and even the one expensive designery knitted item I have has bobbled.

You can get rid of the bobbles though - I've tried various methods and the best and quickest is a plain, normal plastic comb. Over a long time the item will gradually become threadbare as you remove more bobbles, but you can keep things nice for a few years.

The cashmere I have hasn't gone bobbly at all. Its not high end stuff either.

Yes... cotton knitwear. I only buy cotton now. Anything with wool, angora, mohair, acrylic goes bobbly. 100% cotton is the only thing that never bobbles.

I have same problem with everything - cheap or expensive, cashmere or not.

lunar66, but the cardigans I bought were 100% cotton.

Well I suppose at last I'm not the only one! It's so frustrating...

CanI ask how you are washing it ?
You can buy special "shampoo" for cashmere or use ecover delicate . Do not use a certain product that is advertised for washing woolen items that is in most supermarkets -its evil!
Fill sink with lukewarm water add shampoo and place item in sink go off and do something else for 45 mins -do not rub or agitate the agitation causes the bobbles.
Then rinse -the water should be the same temp as the washing water . Do not use cold it will "shock" the fibres and cause bobbling or felting.
Gently squeeze out water and dry flat on one of those jumper dryer thingies.
Sometimes a new garment will have loose fibers that shed and then bobble ie clump together once they are gone it should be ok.
Yes I am knitting /fiber obsessed

Ooh, interesting, Bingo! I have put it inthe washing machine on a delicate cycle, inside out. I will try your way in future though!
