What with?

I'd probably faint tbh but I haven't worn earrings for years and I quite fancy starting again.

i did years ago though, just used a normal stud and pushed it in

I bet you can gently just push an earring through. I tried with one teh other week that hasn't had an earring in for about 10 years. Still managed it

TrillianAstra · 16/04/2010 18:24

Get an earring, push it in really hard.

You may bleed and/or get infected. You may not. Most likely you'll go 'OW!' and fail to make a hole.

FabIsGoingToGetFit · 16/04/2010 18:26

Wet your ears by the hole and wiggle an earring in through it. ^Don't do anything with a needle.

MrsMeow · 16/04/2010 18:29

When I was young and foolish I pierced a 2nd hole using a stud earring

I still have an earring in it now though, but have since had the other side pierced to even it up!

You could try putting an ice cube on it first to numb it a bit.

MayorNaze · 16/04/2010 18:29

i expect it will be ok. but if it hurts, stop and get thee to claires accessories

forkhandles · 16/04/2010 18:31

oh how funny I've been thinking about wearing earings again after about 10 years of not wearing them. I hadn't thought they might have healed over, will have to check later on!

southeastastra · 16/04/2010 18:32

i have two holes on one ear that i did myself. they're still there ok

forkhandles · 16/04/2010 18:43

well that's good to hear SEA, one of mine is DIY too! when mrsmeow mentioned an ice cube it took me right back, now I can smell surgical spirit....

castille · 16/04/2010 18:50

OK, I'll give it a go at the weekend

And if I get septicaemia I'll say you all told me to

what's best to clean with, do you know?

PlumBumMum · 16/04/2010 19:01

Ahh yes I thought I was so important with my bottle of TCP and cotton buds, and twist your earrings everymorning for weeks???

Like everyone else said just use an ordinary earring I had to do mine a few years ago, it didn't hurt abit

MrsMeow · 16/04/2010 19:04

forkhandles I've found Savlon spray to be great stuff on my piercings. It minimises contact from your fingers, I just spray it on, leave it a few seconds then wipe off.

Sudocreme is good too if it gets a bit sore.

I remember when I did my own ear, I'd asked my Mum & Dad if I could have it done - I wanted 2 in one ear and one in the other. They said no so obviously I did it anyway. Then I spent a week trying to keep it covered with my hair and doing an odd sideways thing with my head

Those were the days!

forkhandles · 16/04/2010 19:15

thanks MrsM sounds good!

castille · 03/05/2010 11:34

UPDATE - well I did it and it was surprisingly easy. One earring went almost straight through, the other took a bit of twisting and wincing but it was ok. You'd never know it had been 10+ years!

I used the studs they were first pierced with when I was 16

I probably wear ear-rings three times a year so my holes close up in between. I've found it pretty easy to just gently push an ear-ring back in.
