Primark for children - sorry, I know this doesn't really belong in S&B

I am contemplating going looking for a Primark store having singularly failed to find any clothes at an affordable price (by which I mean very little) today. But I have never in my life been in a Primark store so

Could someone tell me roughly what I would end up paying for the following items for a girl aged 10:

summer pjs/nightdress

t-shirts

shorts/cropped trousers

basic skirt

Also, be honest, what style is Primark? Is it tacky like H&M seems to be now, or tarty like most other girls clothing? Dd isn't into pretty dresses anymore but she is not into black, rockchick or tracky bottoms.

Meant to add, she doesn't like pink anymore either so you can save me the effort of going there if they only sell pink clothes for girls.

pj's about a fiver

t shirts £1.50 and up

shorts. cropped trousers I reckon about £6 tops

ditto skirts

yes it can be naffo but also they do copy some nice more expensive styles too

dd1 def not into pink, and likes primark.

i bought the other day

3 hats
3 t-shirts
4 pairs of shoes
2pairs of knickers (shorts style)

for 3 girls, £21.50

KnickKnack · 15/04/2010 22:35

my only advice is to be there bang on opening time...its only bearable when relatively empty

cant help you on style as DD is still stuck in 6yr old pink hell!

misdee · 15/04/2010 22:36

oh jeans are £5 upwards, depending on age of the child.

only thing is, they dont fit the middle two dd's well and give them builders butts. the shape seems to suit dd1 well though

KnickKnack · 15/04/2010 22:39

following on from Misdee, try on all trousers/shorts as the sizing can vary enormously. Ds has shorts age 6 and age 9-10 both of which fit perfectly!

Also I find Matalan similar price and slightly better quality/wash better. worth a look

misdee · 15/04/2010 22:40

actually the skinny jeans fit dd2 well, just not the bootleg ones (dd2 is skinny as hell)

i don't know about primark clothes, but if you're on a budget why not buy second hand from ebay or on here?

ameliameerkat · 15/04/2010 22:43

I'm with KnickKnack - it's hell when it's busy! Maybe not quite so bad in the kids section. I can easily spend a couple of hours there, leave with a HUGE bag of clothes/shoes/accessories and only spend £40 - £50 I do like my Primark.

Dumbledoresgirl · 16/04/2010 10:09

thisisyesterday, I buy almost entirely from charity shops and ebay (not used for sale on here for many years but I used to). The thing is though, after years and years of this, I do get sick of seeing my children in mismatched clothes and now dd is 10, she is getting to the age where fashion is important to her and girls can be very catty so I want her to "blend in" iyswim.

I did very well in Tescos homestore last year as they had some nice stuff but it varies. Sounds like Primark can be the same. But sounds like it might be worth it on a good day? Thanks for the advice everyone.

My 11 yr old loves Primark clothes - you do have to watch out for the tacky element, but there is a lot of decent stuff too.

PJs and underwear I would buy from asda is you have one near you - similar price, better quality, washes well. I find with Primark you have to pick and choose some stuff is tarty but they're quite good for basics like leggings etc Also the bigger the store the better the choice (obviously)
