OK, so I have been on the look out for a cool water repellent spring coat with hood.... bought this www.marksandspencer.com/Autograph-Weekend-Water-Repellent-Hooded/dp/B002PSFDW0?ie=UTF8&qid=127136126 1&categoryNodeID=42967030&ref=sr113&page=2&node=43109030&sr=1-13&mnSBrand=core&rh=n%3A43109030%2Cn %3A210726031
i rather like it but ds reckons it's very unflattering/naff....
i am 5 foot 4 about a size 10/12 and not very curvy (small boobs etc). I know a trench coat flatters me but can't find any with a hood so thought this would be cool.
Is this coat blurgh or nice? If blurgh anyone got any other suggestions?

Sorry, but I would take the word 'water' out of the description....

RustyBear · 15/04/2010 21:06

Think this one's nicer, though I'm not sure about the size of the pockets.

dinkystinky · 15/04/2010 21:07

Blurgh for sure.

BariatricObama · 15/04/2010 21:08

snort @ rustybear. i think in general buying rainwear from m&s is the road to frumpy nothingness

BallpointPen · 15/04/2010 21:10

Blurgh, sorry.

AbsOfCroissant · 15/04/2010 21:11

I agree with Rustybear. Even the MODEL can't make it look good, and that's her job

cyb · 15/04/2010 21:14

I like the navy parka. Their 'indigo blue ' range has a nice grey checked parka too.

cyb · 15/04/2010 21:15

not shower proof but veh nice on

hettie · 15/04/2010 21:23

oh god.... I used to be stylish..... crap how did I get so blurgh!? Not M&S then....what else?

Yes, sorry just repellant, my 83 yr old grandmother has one very similiar! Hope you haven't taken the tags off

hettie · 16/04/2010 13:55

right will take it back..... but just to let you know I saw two other mums in the playground with it today- kind of stylish mums too, skinny jeans, coverse and cool haircuts type mums?

Well, I think it's ok because truly nice raincoats just do not exist (that I know of). Tell your ds you're working the boyfriend-style trend?

animula · 16/04/2010 14:10

I didn't think it was that bad. It's a cag-parka, isn't it? A cagoul dressed up as a parka.

I think a lot must depend on the fabric, which is perhaps why it doesn't look so nice on. and the parka look is a bit 'over' now, since its Kate Moss heyday. But still, it looks thinner than the red funnel neck that another poster linked to, which must surely make it easier to wear.

I wouldn't wear it myself. I have an orange North Face v. boring cagoul that I wear when I have to, and a Mambo coat that is basically a wearable, fluffy-lined tent, I wear when camping. But generally, I make do with a coat and brolly. So perhaps my opinion, actually, counts for nothing, hettie.

I have basically given up on the quest for stylish, lightweight, rainwear. Odd, really, when you think about the prevailing weather of these shores. I'm clearly in denial. You, however, are bravely questing on. Congratulations. I admire your fortitude.

I like it but not the way she is wearing it.The neck should be done right up funnel style then it would have a funky parka look.As it is looks like mumsy playground attire!

SixtyFootDoll · 16/04/2010 15:31

I prefer the one OP linked to rather than the gingham one, agree with noddy I think the model could have worn i t better

noddyholder · 16/04/2010 15:40

this is nice but more expensive

hettie · 16/04/2010 17:10

mmme the jigsaw one is nice, but no hood so ng for rainy pushchair action..... the bench ones don't say if they are showerproof or not...

hettie · 16/04/2010 17:12
