The demise of KEW....

purplepeony · 14/04/2010 14:37

Anyone else fed up with the way KEW has gone down hill in the past 2-3 years?
what is more depressing is that I see women in their 60s and 70s looking at the clohtes ( concessions in John Lewis.)

skybluewinking · 14/04/2010 14:43

Ageist! Would rather see stylish 70 year old than tacky 30 year olds where I shop.

MrsShu · 14/04/2010 14:44

tel em about it and PRICES have gone up
£50 for a denim skirt?

purplepeony · 14/04/2010 14:45

That's not really the point- as one of the oldest ( I guess) MNs here, I am certainly not ageist- but the whole point is that Kew is no longer stylish.
Why bother to post if you miss the point?

Wait, a 'friend' will be on soon saying how fantastic the are...

crumpette · 14/04/2010 14:46

I agree Kew is not as nice as it used to be about 5 years ago- but seriously when I'm 60 or 70 I want to look fab and wear stylish clothes! 60's not old!!!

Mongolia · 14/04/2010 14:46

Glad to hear we are not talking of "Kewcumber" [bluh]

brimfull · 14/04/2010 14:47

too £££ for what it is
it is on a par with wallis etc and three times the price

MrsShu · 14/04/2010 14:48

i liked their plain tops and wool knitwear was good
also had 2 good wool work suits from there
this season its £££ and all over the shop
staff still very ncie though

brimfull · 14/04/2010 14:50

we have neiwsh one in out town
the staff look sooo bored

Whoamireally · 14/04/2010 14:52

Aren't they Jigsaw but cheaper? Have Jigsaw gone downhill as well?

skybluewinking · 14/04/2010 15:08

Purplepeony, I 'bothered' to post a response to your op as part of a conversation. I did not miss your point, I was making another one. For the record, I think their clothes do not change much each season, they are basics, and once one has bought them for a few seasons, they tend to get boring. This has been the case for at least 5 years.

purplepeony · 14/04/2010 15:47

The point I was making SBW is not that women aged 6-70 should not be stylish but that Kew has lost its appeal ( for me) that it had 5 years ago, and appears to appeal now to an older age group.

They seem to be doing alot more synthetic fibres- hate those fab stretch cardis etc which clicklike mad on jewellery etc- and the colours are drab. The dresses are all maternity style.

OP posts:
MrsShu · 14/04/2010 15:47

dotn like the fabstretch either
and lots of polonecks
yuk
adn droopy skirts

belts are ace

deaddei · 14/04/2010 15:50

It is very gloomy and drab- I see the same styles each season in a slightl muddier version.

MarineIguana · 14/04/2010 15:51

I agree they have gone a bit weird, as have Jigsaw. Boring or strange colours, shapeless sack dresses, prints that are on the wrong side of the fuddy-duddy/retro-cool divide.

MrsShu · 14/04/2010 15:52

VERy sack dresses

traceybath · 14/04/2010 16:08

Oh no jigsaw is much better this season. They've got a new designer and it really shows.

Kew is the cheaper line of jigsaw and very blah now. The proper kew shop closed near us and is now just a concession in JL.

traceybath · 14/04/2010 16:08

Random fact - Mr Jigsaw used to be my landlord - now they have a seriously nice house.

Kewcumber · 14/04/2010 16:10

Please stop it. Kew (of any kind - shop, botannical gardens or green salad vegetable) is invariably wonderful.

purplepeony · 14/04/2010 16:48

Agree that Jigsaw is getting its act together though prices are still £££s.

Kew is just non descript.

OP posts:
ChippyMinton · 14/04/2010 16:51

Can't remember last time I bought anything in Kew. Have loads of stuff from about 3 years ago that's still going strong though (I like the fabstretch jumpers for work).

higgle · 14/04/2010 17:00

Jigsaw has lovely stuff this season - but I can only afford 1 £100 cardi - and it is going to have to last!

tattycoram · 14/04/2010 17:41

I think they must be purposefully aiming for an older market - they are next to all the older brands in John Lewis now. I have had the odd thing from there that has been a real wardrobe staple, but I agree in general tis dull

MmeLindt · 14/04/2010 17:43

I was worried about Kewcumber too. Glad to see she is not in decline.

GeorginaWorsley · 14/04/2010 18:31

The dresses are overpriced, but I like some of the open cardigan type things. Never buy the trousers as too long for me.
