I mean, are they finally over and done to death? Because it seems to me that, the second they are, they need to be consigned to that wardrobe in the sky. The risk of a no-longer-fashionable but instead OMG-not-another-one-at-her-age being too hideous to take.

And yes, I know that the uber-modish amongst you are already raising your eyebrows, remembering that you got rid of yours at least three seasons ago and even now checking out the 2010-11 season runways and preparing for the Autumnal return to Grace Kelly like elegance and hem-lines etc etc - but I'm talking normal sunny day (please!) life here..

I just think they're unflattering and make you look pregnant. For that reason they should be binned.

I think you've just possibly put it rather more concisely than me!

I think they are easy to wear and therefore perfect for sunny days running around after DCs. However, bottom half needs to be slim fit to avoid pregnant look. No wide leg linen trousers/cropped combats with them please.

In terms of "fashion", Top Shop, Yumi and many other stores have a large selection of vest-type smock tops - either plain jersey tee or printed cotton. These are great for layering and makes them less "mumsy".

I have a few and never feel good in them, always feel bigger and at a size 16 having had a baby 8wks ago thats the last thing i need to feel.

Have been carrying her in a sling and it hides my mummy tummy very well....but i can't do that forever.

Rockbird · 14/04/2010 12:24

I disagree tracey. I'm fat and would far rather look pregnant than just lardy. I love smock tops

traceybath · 14/04/2010 12:54

Aha - you see I've spent a large part of the past few years pregnant and now I've lost weight - don't want any ambiguity

Also think there one of those things that look nice from the front but tent like from the side.

PortBlacksandDweller · 14/04/2010 13:02

I'm a size 16 and have recently binned about four in a mad wardrobe attack - i want to lose weight and they do nothing for me - they are too forgiving physically while visually they make me look pregnant. A customer did mention something that made me think he thought i was expecting (whilst wearing one) - and i can't say i blame him.

Maybe they are so fashionable because we're all getting bigger .

traceybath · 14/04/2010 13:06

Port - I think you're onto something there.

Someone - I think Noddy said on another thread that jeggings make you fat and I do think to some extent its true.

If you're wearing lose fitting/elasticated stuff all the time - its not so easy to notice if you're gaining weight.

Is super comfy though

PortBlacksandDweller · 14/04/2010 13:13

Yup - fitted t shirts here now - will be more inclined to eat salad if i can see winnie-the -pooh looking back at me...
