Links of London Sweetie

I have an old links sweetie bracelet probably about 7yrs old. which looks really dull, tarnished even. Have tried conventional 'silver dip' on it hasn't worked. Took to local jeweller who said will need to be returned to Links for re-polishing...anyone had this with their sweetie? i really want to start wearing mine again

Have you tried a silver cloth? I swear by my john lewis one, bought from waitrose, it may take a bit of elbow grease but it will work. The silver isn't any different to any other silver on a sweetie so I'm not sure what they would do differently really, unless they have sonic cleaners. Try the cloth, well worth a fiver. I make jewellery using sterling and Karen silver, a quick buff and the shine is back.

links have emailed me saying they can do professional clean for £10 so i will let them do it..but thanks for the suggestion will look out for that for my other jewellery.

Oh yeah, for a tenner I don't blame you!

MrsDinky · 14/04/2010 11:12

For silver jewellery I put a big teaspoon of bicarb in a cup of hot water with the item and a piece of tinfoil, shake it around a bit, then leave it for 10-15 mins, give it a good rinse and wipe down, usually works very well.

I'd be worried about anything I would do that might damage the elastic. Let the Links people do it for a tenner.

Links have always cleaned mine for free. I take mine into my local Links supplier and they send it off. Takes about 2 weeks and I have never paid.

I don't know about specifics of cleaning sweetie bracelets but I do any tarnished silver with toothpaste, just put toothpaste on, mush it into all nooks and crannies and rinse off. Works a treat. Makes me wonder about what it is doing to me though...

nicolamumof3 · 14/04/2010 13:08

yes previously they have cleaned for me too jolie jolie but think they are actually re-polishing this time. Plus i no longer work in London so can't take into store myself.
