Hi, since having 3dc still in nappies my shopping sprees in boots have had to be curtailed- well transfered to the baby section so was wondering what bargain beauty products you use that are better than the pricey alternative?

Mine so far are baking soda toothpaste is better at whitening teeth than the whitening toothpaste, a plain aqueous cream makes my hands softer than any cream I've used (& I'm a hand cream addict ) and Avon hair serum is fantastic!

Porridge oats in tights over taps (does that even make sense?)

Waitrose Baby Massage Coconut Oil stuff, I use it on everything. (Basically solid coconut oil with a bit of vanilla in - sounds gak is nice)

Boots Organic Cleansing balm stuff is MUCH nicer than Eve Lom, has better ingredients and is a 10th of the price.

Link to the Boots balm please? It sounds good.

Aldi version of touche eclat

Am going to try the crushed asprin mask , do you add water to make a paste?

paisleyleaf · 14/04/2010 22:56

Some of that Boots' Natural Collection make up is pretty good.

SnotBaby · 14/04/2010 22:56

Oil cleansing method!

Used tea bags as an eye mask, brings down red puffy eyes a treat and apparently tannins do something for dark circles

Sea salt from Holland & Barrett, lovely in the bath or combine with a bit of olive oil for a fantastic body scrub

somerfield/ co-op tea tree and mint shampoo/conditioner

Simple Replenishing Rich Moisturiser. Costs less than three quid and just as good as Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturiser, which I used to use.

Alouiseg · 15/04/2010 10:48

sixtyfootdoll Yes, add water to form a (lumpy) paste.

Boots botanics anti wrinkle day cream. Its really nice and rich and sinks in brilliantly on my knackered skin.

TheProvincialLady · 15/04/2010 12:27

Lansinoh (the nipple stuff) heals cracked and dry skin better than anything else I have used. Stick a pair of socks on a radiator, slather on lansinoh and put the socks on, ideally overnight. Hey presto, soft feet.

TheProvincialLady · 15/04/2010 12:28

Crushed aspirin as a mask? I use it on ingrown hairs too and it literally strips the skin off my legs. I would not put it on my face.

Alouiseg · 15/04/2010 19:08

Really??? It does wonders for me.

GetOrfMoiLand · 15/04/2010 19:11

Tesco Make Up cream blusher. Is the best cream blusher on the market imo and costs 4 quid.

Any old crap body lotion which someone gets you for Christmas = substitute for John Frieda Frizz Ease.

birdsandblossoms · 15/04/2010 19:25

Ikea hand cream has transformed my withered crone like mitts

birdsandblossoms · 15/04/2010 19:27

Also Boots own make cologne the Lemony one smells a lot like the L'Occataine one big glass bottle for £3.95

TheProvincialLady · 15/04/2010 19:28

Maybe I have got super sensitive skin but I don't think I have. I'm not exaggerating about the skin peeling - the first time I did it I applied all over my legs and the skin came off in sheets. It was grim. I've just googled aspirin face masks though and people seem to rave about them...not for me though.

darkandstormy · 15/04/2010 22:00

oil of olay day lotion factor 15 included less than a fiver, brilliant imo.
