i went from long hair to just above shoulder layered bob sort of do. it constantly flicked out miss hooley style so when i went back for a trim the other week i asked her not to do the layers any shorter thinking that was my problem.
it still flicks out and also the ends look too blunt, too square if you know what i mean. i feel all sort of old fashioned mumsy.
help!

You could try putting a curl-boosting mousse in it to bring about more of a wave so that the flicks look intentional? (ie. if you can't beat 'em, join 'em)

Use a heavy conditioner to weigh the hair down and texture-wax type stuff on the ends
as sometimes the ends flick out if the hair is too "light" ifyswim.

I think you were probably right not to get the layers done any shorter, as it would have made it worse

(I'm speaking as someone with very flicky hair who has had more than few disasters with short layes. DP called me Mrs. Whippy for months).

Good luck

I have the same problem. I use serum on the ends to weigh it down, and I am going to wait several months before I go back.

Next time we should all just go to this hairdresser:

It will grow back

thanks for the replies. with regards to the blunt looking bottom edge (thats when its straightened at the hairdressers) do i ask for her to make it more jagged? or does that sound like nonsense?
i'll try and put a pic on so you can see what i mean.

Your hair looks nice! Have you got some straighteners? Sounds more like a styling problem than a cutting problem to me...

You could ask her to make the layers more textured - they use phrases like 'chip into it' and make it more 'choppy'

But you can sort it out a bit yourself by blowdrying the curl out of it at the bottoms, running a straightener over the ends, and then adding a bit of wax to break it up...
