Where can I get some decent maternity clothes? Preferably in-store

As I can't be arsed doing returns and really need to try on before I buy atm

Boobs have grown so much not sure I can get into size 10-12 stuff

Am 24 weeks and can no longer get away with wearing my own (non-maternity) stuff

When I looked a couple of weeks ago I felt hopeless and bereft... but hopefully newer stuff is in now

I always found Next the best for maternity clothes - lots of different styles, sizes and lengths. It all washed and lasted well too.

Mothercare is a bit hit and miss, but some of their stuff (like tops) is ok.

Asda is rubbish - all loses its shape quickly and quite uncomfortable too.

Gap? Always found loads there

H&M, New Look, Gap - especially their sale rails, Mamas & Papas if there's one near you.

Topshop and M&S both great for maternity gear. Good shape and quality.

They do indeed! Where do you live- they don't all do it...

Also Zara- don't do much but is quite nice (although having said that a skirt ripped as soon as I tried it on).

Oh yes, TopShop good too.

H&M best for t-shirts IMHO

Am pretty sure I've never seen maternity stuff at my local Gap (small)

I got utterly depressed in H&M a couple of months ago trying on a pair of mat jeans... when a size 16 wouldn't get past my thighs (am usually a 10-12)!

Can you get to London? If you go to Oxford Circus all the 'flagship' stores have maternity- Topshop, Gap, H&M, New Look, Benetton, Zara etc etc.
Loved H&M tops but hated the bottoms

Yes they do and if you order on line you can return to a store.

1 pair of mat jeans, leggings (I can only do leggings with knee-high boots or wedges, and is not the weather for either atm) and slobby jogging bottom things which I would never wear out of the house anyway

And all my tops are too tight now

Yep - Jo Jo do Maternity - as do a few other 'posher' places. (Isabella Oliver and other specialist places) Or, you could buy a "bundle" from eBay. People tend to only wear their maternity clothes once or twice (or so!) so they are generally good quality, and I found that even if only one or two items suited me, then it was still worth buying a bundle as it was still cheaper then buying new.

Also, it depends on your style etc. For work, I found I needed proper maternity trousers and shirts etc, but for casual wear I just bought bigger sizes in tops and even skirts.

Oh - and there's always stuff at NCT sales if you have sharp elbows and get there early (check their website for sales near you).

And there's a load of (quite tatty after 3 kids) maternity stuff in my local charity shop!

Gap Maternity saved me from a summer of shapless florals and black linen. They opened up in Leeds just in time!
