Good quality boys clothes, but not too 'trendy' - like Boden I guess... where to buy?

Sorry for random title, brain not in gear. Anyhooo I have 2 DSs (soon to be 3)just 4 and 19m and need to get them some clothes. I think the 4 year old is lasting long enough to get decent stuff, and obviously will be handed down twice but I have no idea where to buy. I have eyed up some stuff in Boden (polos and the like) but that's all I have seen. Preferably I don't want anything with skulls etc, and too trendy/fashion-y (brands like Bench, Henleys, timberland etc.) I have trawled the web for toddler jackets like berghaus but cannot seem to find anything. Thanks so much if you can help

JoJo Maman Bebe is good for not too trendy basics.

moondog · 09/04/2010 16:37

Kids should be Kids is great.
Somoeone on here recommended to me and the clothes are cheap, well made and service is second to none.
I don't find it boring-I reserve that judgement for hideous clothes covered in planes, trains and logos.
My ds's coolest top is skinny fit purple/orange stripe long sleeved number from KSBK.

TheFallenMadonna · 09/04/2010 16:45

When Ds was that age, I shopped at H&M and Zara for him, and Monsoon for weddings etc. But he's now 8 (and wears 10-11 clothes) and it's just not the same! Now John Lewis, Gap and TK Maxx. The latter very selectively...

CaptainNancy · 10/04/2010 20:44

John Lewis is fantastic (and the girls' collection has out-bodened Boden this season)- their outerwear is also good (you said like berghaus).

Sainsbury often have nice plain or striped long-sleeved tops, and cords. H&M often have nice things, and everything we've ever had has stood up to a lot of washing/wear. I like some of the less garish Skandi stuff too, but am quite selective. Gap do nice things, but the boys stuff is very samey I find.

White company is nice too, but only in the sale. M&S sometimes have nice things, but it is a bit hit and miss.

The best for wear was Gymboree, but you have to order from the US now, and import duty is steep, plus I do not like the boys clothes nearly as much as I love the girls things, but the quality is excellent- very good washing/drying, doesn't lose shape or fade lots, nice non-hookerish designs (though they are going off a little of late).

Older vertbaudet stuff was good quality, so it's a pity if that's not the case now.

MollieO · 10/04/2010 21:03

I had a look at the KSBK site and am left wondering what 't-shits' are, as in

"I?m really delighted with the t-shits! My son loves them too...I?ll definitely order from you again. Quality items that were reasonably priced and shipped really quickly". Charlotte

DinahRod · 10/04/2010 21:08

Verbaudet really gone downhill, their clothes fade and shrink.

-John Lewis are v good
-Sainsburys do better cords imo than Boden (ds' Boden ones wore out at the knees, Sainsburys didn't) - just a shame they don't go to bigger sizes beyond 5.
-Benneton - if you can track them down
-Mini Mode
-Kids Should Be Kids
-Millets

CaptainNancy · 10/04/2010 21:56

ooh yes- mini mode often have lovely things, and not just in blue or pink either, but getting a little too many pictures on atm.

womblingalong · 10/04/2010 22:19

KSBK are fab, excellent customer service, they made a mistake on my order and sent me 2 free tops, also the stuff is lovely quality and colourful classic stripes IMO, lovely for both boys and girls.

womblingalong · 10/04/2010 22:22

Best places for younger oys have all been mentioned, Gap and Boden, selectively, KSBK, H&M great for jeans & casual trousers, ebay, nordic brands DPAM etc for funky tops. Love Polarn O Pyret for PJ's, and T's and outdoor gear.

DinahRod · 11/04/2010 08:05

Also Primark do good pjs for boys

There is also a MNer I think who set up GUY, haven't bought from there myself, but might be worth a look.

MillyMollyMoo · 11/04/2010 11:29

www.guycollection.co.uk, the mother is a perfectionist i'd imagine it's all beautiful quality.

The quality of the cotton at KSBK is lovely too - they would definitely see you through two kids if not three

bishboschone · 11/04/2010 14:24

my frind got some lovely clothes for her son from tesco the other day. I was really surprised how nice it was..very GAP...worth a look

MarthaFarquhar · 11/04/2010 14:34

sainsburys often has some great boden copies

Beesmummy · 07/01/2011 20:29

Hi, where can I find Kids should be Kids? Can't find the website, if there is one.

nicolamumof3 · 08/01/2011 20:38

JoJo nice classic breton basics
John Lewis
Monsoon
Fat Face
Gap (never found Gap expensive cheaper than boden, and quality good)
Boden
I personally love the danish brands but probably not so much the classic look you are after.
and if you look carefully Next

vesela · 11/01/2011 21:31

This site has some fantastic plain basics for boys, with good sale prices at the moment - e.g. £9 for trousers.

They're Danish (Wheat) and it's called kidkid, but seems to be a different site from ksbkids, which I can't seem to find at the moment (the link upthread isn't working).

plusonemore · 11/01/2011 21:37

Have we broken kids should be kids? Links don't seem to work and can't even find it on google!

vesela · 11/01/2011 21:46

aha, just seen that this is an old thread resuscitated by someone looking for kids should be kids!

plusonemore · 11/01/2011 21:59

ahhhhh i seeeee!

wonkytree · 12/01/2011 09:16

I find the basic tops and cardigans from Jojo Maman Bebe are very hard wearing and rarely need ironing. The colours are classic and they add a few feature colours each season which easily mix and match.
