how much for a haircut in north london?

I went to have my haircut on Saturday and paid £38.
I thought this was quite reasonable and left very happy with a couple of "half price" vouchers to give away, when the friend uses the voucher I then get a 50% discount for my next haircut.

I didn't bother checking other salons, just made an appointment to one I went to before who could make an appointment that afternoon, I am happy with the cut.

Sil says I got ripped off (and refused the voucher).

You can tell I have not had my hair cut in a long time now can't you .

So what is the going rate?
Did I really get ripped off?

I would say you got a fair deal. (even more so with the vouchers and that you were happy)
The usual rate i have seen in north london is 40 - 45. I havnt paid less than 40 in a long time!
I'll use your half price voucher!

Sounds about right to me. All the fancy salons I know charge more than 40. Even ones that tend to cater for little old ladies, etc charge mid 30s for a cut & blow dry.

A good haircut is worth paying for IMO.

Sounds reasonable to me, I live in the northwest and pay £42 to get my hair cut with no incentives or vouchers.

nannyj · 06/04/2010 20:27

I used to pay £68 so i reckon you got a good deal.

My 2 dds age 6 and 8 and I had our haircut today. We live in East London. Was told when booking the appointment that their haircuts would be £20 and mine between £39 - £44 depending on which stylist I used.

I paid in total £95 for all our haircut. Was too embarassed to ask for a breakdown of that price. I think its a lot for the 2 girls as all they had were 2 bob cuts simple enough, just about 4 inches of hair off.
I didn't go for a fancy style, again I had about 4-5 inches of hair off - basically all 3 of us had were straight trims and no fancy styling.

I did ring about 3 salons and all quoted me about £22 - £25 for the girls and about £45 for mine.

And I didn't get any vouchers etc.

You have paid the going rate. Was that with 50 percent off though? you wouldnt have to pay more than 45 I wouldve thought. Was it at a HOB salon?

SMacK · 06/04/2010 22:50

I used to pay £6 when working in North London. I think it has gone up to about £9 now though. Toppas.

controlfreakery · 06/04/2010 22:59

well mine is £71 a pop...

SMacK · 06/04/2010 23:00

I don't geddit. sit down, scissors, snip snip. WHERE does £71 go? Do you have two-day long golden thread braiding?

controlfreakery · 07/04/2010 18:21

it's (sort of) worth it... have had many bad haircuts in my time believe me. for this i get a fab cut every time which makes me feel good rsther than suicidal.
