Threading: is this normal, or is threader rubbish, or am I a hairy monster?

I had my eyebrows threaded for the first time about 10 days ago. The lady told me that it would last longer than waxing. Looked good for a week or so but thinner than I would like. Has now grown back in, looks like my post-wax brows after about a month of no maintenance! So, the question is, does threading really last longer? I don't think I am esp hairy, really, I just can't believe how fast it has grown back and am tempted to pop in and and insist they do them again with wax.

I don't think threading lasts any longer

Equally painful

I went with MaryMotherOfCheeses for a wax at Debenhams before Xmas and boy were we smarting

traceybath · 06/04/2010 10:47

I think good threading lasts a while.

I had my done about 6 weeks ago at the blink bar in Harvey Nicks and I can honestly say it didn't hurt at all and the results were fab.

Like everything though it depends on how good the person doing it is.

BuzzingNoise · 06/04/2010 10:47

I have had mine threaded once - 5 weeks ago, and I intend to go back this weekend to have them redone. I found it was longer before the hairs grew back, and there didn't seem to be as many. And yes, it was painful, but was over much quicker. I much preferred it to waxing.

roary · 06/04/2010 10:56

I may go in and ask to for it to be done again - I hate having messy brows and I am 41 weeks pregnant and was hoping to have lovely tidy glamour brows for a while before I had to do them again! I will probably get them waxed because I think the threader was rubbish. ANd pretty sure she's the only show in town in terms of threading (in Oxford).

Unless my eyebrows are experiencing some bizarre hormonal surge.

I don't understand why hairs would grow back sooner after waxing as you are still pulling the hairs out IYSWIM!

ASecretLemonadeDrinker · 06/04/2010 11:36

Lasts longer, definatly, but only after you have been at least twice. The hairs (seem to) grow at different rates, so what may have grown now may not be the same ones that were pulled. I love threading (even if she did say I had one bad eyebrow ) but if you leave it too long between visits it's hell on earth and I end up going back to getting it waxed off

roary I've been to the one in Oxford too - is it the Benito bar in Debenhams? If so they are rubbish.

Go to the Nails Inc bar instead and get the girl there to do them. I had them done there and it lasted 3 months, had them done at Benito's and only lasted about 4 weeks, if that and the shape was awful too.

roary · 06/04/2010 13:52

Notjustapuppy, it was at canelle beaute in summertown. They are normally great. Where is nails Inc?

Yes surprised at that, they have a good rep. Nails Inc is within Debenhams (as is Benito's but avoid them!).

Go upstairs past all the beauty counters and they are towards the back, before you get as far as the bags etc. Quite close to the perfumes.

Mine only lasted a couple of weeks. I was conned into get my upper lip threaded too, omg the pain was unbelievable, like someone constantly twanging an elastic band against the side of your face hard. I had tears in my eyes.

roary · 06/04/2010 16:40

They look awful - just saw self in mirror!! This has never happened post waxing. Wil def go in and get it sorted.

I asked the woman at the training salon that I go to (it's cheaper there) and she said that a good result depends on the quality of the thread. If the thread is decent quality it shouldn't hurt, but some cowboys salons use cheap stuff and it can hurt like hell!

How can it last longer than waxing or plucking?

roary · 06/04/2010 17:12

Apparently it lasts longer because it pulls the hair out from further down the root. Not the case for me!!

I have mine threaded, I have never waxed so can't compare. I don't find it painful in the slightest and I get my whole face done. I last had it done when we were in Egypt visiting family about 4 weeks ago. The girl I go to is excellent and its still ok. Normally in the UK I go to an Iraqi guy my DH knows and he is good but it dosn't last nearly as long as when the Egyptian girl does it. Definitely depends on who does it and also you will find after a couple of times it grows back slower and thinner.

tummytime · 06/04/2010 17:42

I thought you were going to say the bar in Debenhams in Oxford. I had mine done there recently and v.disappointed. Will stick with waxing from now on.

notjustapuppymum · 06/04/2010 21:00

tummytime see above posts re bar in Debenhams!

There are two - Benito's not good, Nails inc very good!
