I have now got to the stage where i look better with make up on than without, how to do daytime/casual?

I have always had good skin and looked stupid wearing 'face' make up, so used to just wear eye make up and lip gloss. I even used to look good in it the next morning.

Now i look tired and skin is not all dewy and youthful and I need to wear make up more than not.

I have nice make up, but how do i start wearing it during the daytime without looking like i am iyswim? People are going to wonder why i have suddenly started to wear it.

Chanel Vitalumiere.

Or tinted moisturiser.

Don't worry what people think. They're all too busy worrying about themselves to take much notice of you!

wear blusher too, that's the secret to not looking like the undead

thanks, i have some illuminating moisteriser and Benefit's Some kinda Gorgeous, would this be the best start?

Would be less noticeable than inch thick mascara anyway

Provided you get the foundation right it will be hard to notice. It should "even out" your skintone rather than change your whole colour - it shouldn't be a mask. I find it really hard to get the right colour and when I shop for founation I put a little bit of the tester on my (bare skin) jawline and see if it blends with my natural colour. I have even been known to go to the door with a mirror to see it in the daylight!

Here's what I do for daytime:

Foundation (one of the combined powder/ liquid foundations you can slick on with a sponge - I usually pay most attention to under/around my eyes and the centre strip of my face - my forehead usually doesn't get much as I have a fringe, and also it is hard for a forehead to look "tired". Blend like mad.)

Eyeliner above the top lashes and below the lower lashes (and smudged a bit below) - I don't use it inside the lash line because I think it looks a bit "hard" on me. I don't bother with eyeshadow for day.

Mascara if I can be bothered (usually not as I have dark lashes).

Blusher - lightly, on cheeks, and above the eyes - just to give you a bit of colour.

Lip balm or a lipstick, around the same colour as my lips.

Have a wee experiment and see what you like best. Also time yourself - I don't know about you but I am usually pushed for time in the morning and that dictates my makeup routine to a certain extent.

Do you use black eyeliner or brown/grey for daytime?

Brown or grey eyeliner, unless you are very young. Or avoid eyeliner altogether and just use a bit of eyeshadow on a dampened eyeliner brush - it is softer looking than eyeliner.

I am 25 BTW but on 2nd pregnancy. I do look very young for my age, until you get close up!

I wear brown mascara now as i have found that black doesn't suit me at all.

I just use foundation where needed - not all over, a little bit of lipstick in a naturalish colour and some clear mascara for lashes and brows.

Thats all you need really, though a tiny bit of blusher can work wonders as well.

janeite · 05/04/2010 17:09

25 - you are a mere child: wear whatever you fancy!

omnishambles · 05/04/2010 17:12
