What can I get to make my straight hair curly?

I'm thinking of ceramic rollers, but which are the best?
I guess using super hot tongs would be effective but damaging?

A perm

Fimbow · 04/04/2010 19:37

agree a perm.

I very very very occasionally used tongs on dd's hair when it was long to make it curly but it mainly dropped out and she has very thick hair.

Can perms look good though?

Maveta · 04/04/2010 20:09

what is your hair like? (long, short, layers?) mine is straight as a poker but by cutting in loads of layers, then scrunching a ´be curly´ type product in when wet and air drying.. and generally not letting a hairbrush anywhere near it, I do manage to get some waviness going on. Not proper curls but the best I can do without heavy duty styling. The slightest whiff of a brush or a hairdryer and it flattens.

Would this work with yours?

Bumperliciouzzzzzz · 04/04/2010 20:31

Does scrunching really work? I have to put my wet hair in a bun for 2 days to get any kind of wave (and yes, no brush!), and even then it's a bit straight at the front as it's not quite long enough (touching shoulders).

What do you use?

Fimbow · 04/04/2010 20:36

You can curl using hair straighters too

peggotty · 04/04/2010 20:48

Have seen these raved about. I'm thinking about getting some myself. Currently I spray my hair with pro-curl spray wax stuff, then when it's still wet, section it off and sort of twist it into ringlets and let it dry naturally. Makes it quite wavy and lasts a good part of the day, all day if I'm being lazy and am not outside much.

cookielove · 04/04/2010 20:51

i have wavy hair naturally, urgh poor me, look like a bloody 80's icon when dry, especially when brushed, when it is half wet half dry i have lovely curls and waves running throu it, i use ghds to make it curly, for night outs.

will try to link to a picture of me with my hair curled by them

OnlyWantsOne · 04/04/2010 20:55

I use my GHDs to curl my hair.

Much quicker imo that curling tongs - and will last all day if used with product.

Different perms will have VERY different results.

Spiral Perm would give soft bouncy ringletts, but is very expensive.

Or, you could have a standard granny style perm

i would def go to a salon at least to get them to curl your hair what happens if u get a perm and you don't like it

Maveta · 04/04/2010 21:26

for me it really depends on the cut, if they cut the layers too long or not enough of them then forget it, it gets too heavy and just hangs straight. But when its cut right scrunching works, til it grows out. Currently don´t have a proper product as hairdresser´s was out so am using a hair creme type product that is supposed to be for glossing dry hair that I have. Hairdresser said you can use intensive conditioner (those mask types) when desperate just really small amounts to save it getting a bit wet look/greasy.
