help with outfit for Buckingham Palace garden party

I am really excited to have been invited to one of the palace garden parties that Princess Anne is hosting for those who work for the charities she is patron to, it will be in July. I've read the rules and know that I need a hat and some shoes that will be comfortable. I'm going to wear a Toast silk dress, dusky floral print, waisted but more subtle than 50's style.

I will either wear a lovely vintage jacket that my mother wore once in 1962 to a wedding - very like this hereor this cardigan, which is more my style, with a big pearl floral type brooch here But I am really stuck for hats and shoes and a bag - can't spend the earth so must be able to wear again. I'm shortish and would really like a small but exotic hat - I feel so frumpy in flats but know I'll be really miserable if my feet hurt
would Camper Laura shoes be OK?

I really don't want to look as if I've arrived wearing something I had for a family wedding and am recycling.

If anyone who has been can give me some tips about how to look stunning and be comfortable I would really appreciate it - I'm 5'3" and a 10/12

Oh you lucky thing!

I'm not sure if the second ting you linked to was what you want to link to - it's a cardigan not a broach.

I just adore that jacket - very elegant.

When you say dusky floral print, what do colour do you mean? Can you give a link?

Need more info on colours to help more I'm afraid.

WRT Camper Laura shoes, I'm not sure. I think I'd wear something a little more glam TBH, esp with a jacket like that.

The cardigan is something I'm thinking of, it looks rather special in real life. this is the brooch this one

This is my dress, bargain on ebay

I used to work for one of Princess Anne's charities and got invited to a garden party two years ago.

You can get away with a fascinator if you don't want to wear a hat.

You will be walking on grass most of the day , so be careful of heels that will sink into it, and there are really not that many chairs around so they need to be comfortable as you will be on your feet most of the day.

Have a lovely day. We did, it had been raining all week but the day we went the weather was perfect.

which Camper LAura?

boogeek · 04/04/2010 19:10

Have you considered hiring a hat? I did this for a family wedding at which I was vastly pregnant and needed to distrct from my girth; you will probably pay about 40 quid, and I know you could buy a cheaper hat than that but you will probably not be able to buy an incredible hat for that, iyswim. Take your dress and jacket along to the shop and let the experts guide you in your choice

Nude wedges?

There are lots of lovely Camper laura's shop.camper.com/productos.xhtml?lng=en&type=W&p=7Yes, I might hire a hat. The Jigsaw shoes are very nice but really i would not have a lot of use for that sort of shoes - I could do with something I could wear for best in the real world, which for me is fairly rural and generaly involves having to walk to places if we go out.

Does anyone who has gone know what sort of bag is best? I presume a big one is not a good idea, but do you need an unberella in case it rains? I'm vegetarian,so avoid leather bags.
