there is a good range online at the skate sale.co.uk. They have all the standard good and very good (i.e. expensive) makes.

We got DD's skates there.

I have a pair of classic Rollerblade rollerblades and so does DH and we love them.

Depends what colour you want and how fancy a brake you require...

Generally, the more expensive, the better made wheels...
You MUST buy wrist guards, knee pads and elbow pads.
Never, never rollerblade without wrist guards!!!!!!!

recommend rubber wheels as its less clunky and bumpy...goes smoother and faster

bauer are a good bet.

My rollerblades are Solomon. I've had them 11 years now, still going strong.

I agree with Miggsie re the knee, wrist & elbow pads. Here's a warning tale: 11 years ago, I was a student in a lovely rollerblade-friendly European city, skating to uni, skating to work, feeling very cool, and at the slimmest I'd ever been (a direct result of rollerblading - Best Exercise Ever for thighs and bum).

Anyway, I digress. I got cocky, thought I didn't need the knee pads anymore: thought my floaty summer dress didn't look quite so good with them on. One day I was chatting on my mobile while skating home along the pavement (yep, cocky), then had to break at the last minute. The momentum took me right onto my knees, my whole body weight crashed down onto my knee caps, on concrete. Result: shattered cartilage in both knees, years of physio, now have creaky knees. Am waiting for stem-cell research to progress to grow-yer-own-affordable-cartilage.

I can still do stuff like skiing/hiking, but never been able to jog or run as it's too much impact on my knees.

Stupid, stupid, stupid. [FWF relives one of most stupid mistakes ever, is sure OP has bags more sense].

On a S&B note, do you have a nice leggings/tunic combo to wear while skating?

Mine are Roces, can't remember the model name. Love them, definitely agree it's worth spending more as if you get cheapo ones it'll put you off pursuing your new hobby.

Also agree with wearing all the protective gear, it also gives you more confidence so you can fall around the place without worrying about hurting yourself.

here is a good website for all sorts of advice.
