Foundation and oily skin problem

I'm having real problems finding a foundation that doesn't turn into an oil-slick on my face.

I've tried various liquid and mineral powder foundations, and they either have no staying power or turn me into a grease-ball within 3 or 4 hours.

I've tried various primers, setting powders, with not great success.

I've tried Chanel Mat-lumiere - rubbish coverage, and shiney quickly.

Nars Sheer Glow - a total oil slick

Laura Mercier mineral powder - shiney

Jane Iredale mineral powder - crap coverage and shiney

Lily Lolo - itchy, dry, then oily.

Various tinted moisturisers, but I'd like a bit more coverage than this anyway.

I have to say, the best results I've had are with Maybelline - the mineral powder, and the dream satin liquid. These are both okay, but not fantastic - not great staying power.

What else can I try? Any suggestions?

Estee lauder doublewear has fantastic staying power. It is the only foundation i can use because i have very oily skin. Coverage is brilliant too. I work on a cosmetics counter so have tried pretty much everything. Xx

Yep, I second double wear. It's the only foundation I use when I'm going on nights out as I know it will still be there when I am pissed worse for wear and photos are being taken, and will still look good

Thanks for the recommendation, will give this one a try.

I prefer a more natural look, medium coverage. Should I try the Double Wear, or the Double Wear light do you think?

Not sure. They are pretty good at giving samples though, the one I got before I bought it lasted a week so I could really tell if I wanted to splash out on it.

I have both and they are both good. Why dont you go in and get a sample of both to see which one you prefer? Dw light is for skin which isnt quite as oily so you might find the original one a bit better. Good luck!

lancome ideal is good , stays on my oily t-zone

I may give Estee Lauder one a try although I need a moister one for the area around my eyes.

The problem is I live on the Isle of Wight. No department stores, one largish Boots. Don't think they have an Estee Lauder counter. They do have a Lancome one though.

May see if I can get some samples from eBay. I tend to have to shop online.

Minerals on oily skin won't work.

Firstly, you need to get the right base, so I suggest the following:

Use an oil free cleanser
Use an oil free moisturiser
USE A PRIMER!!!!! (Mac Strobe is excellent)
Use an oil free foundation
Use a powder to set the foundation

If the base isn't right, the foundation will fall off after a few hours.

Good luck.

Thanks. Yes, I'm beginning to realise that about mineral foundation, which is a shame, because I love the initial finish of the ones I've tried, and the fact that the good quality ones are natural and supposedly good for your skin.

Has anyone tried the new Clinique anti blemish solutions foundation? It's had a couple of good reviews on make up alley, saying it's comparable with EL double wear.
